Hooray! Finally A Black Disney Princess – Anika Noni Rose!

Isn’t it great that Disney finally has a black princess?
Anika Noni Rose is now starring as the voice of Disney’s first black princess character, Princess Tiana, in their highly anticpated animated film, The Princess and the Frog. Girls everywhere have been waiting for this day — and the movie finally hits theaters Dec. 11!
Now that we have Sasha and Malia Obama in the White House, we need a fairy princess on the big screen, too! Anika — known for her role as Lorrell Robinson in Dreamgirls — agrees. “I hope that they’re just happy that finally somebody said, ‘Oh yeah. You all exist too,’” she tells Chris Yandek of CYInterview.com.
And Anika is totally loving life right now. ”I hope that my life continues to move in that way. It’s a really special thing to be able to keep being surprised by your work and by your opportunity,” she says.
Anika confesses she has a prince of her own, but he’s only four-years-old! “He’s my nephew and I adore him and that is the only prince that I will talk about — he’s my favorite prince in the world!” —Chloe Melas
