Billy Joel Defends Ex-Wife Christie Brinkley Against ‘Vicious Lies’
Even though they divorced in 1994, Billy Joel is standing by his ex wife, Christie Brinkley.
Days after their daughter Alexa Ray Joel‘s attempted suicide, the New York Post said the young songstress attempted suicide because she had just spent a “dysfunctional weekend” with her “badgering” mother, adding that the two had “knock-down, drag-out fights.” The paper even blamed Christie for Alexa’s depression, claiming that the former super model would chew brownies and spit them out in front of her daughter.
Naturally Christie is upset by the claims, but Billy — who was barely mentioned in the story — is also sticking up for Christie!
The ex-couple released a joint statement to Extra saying, “Every parent can imagine the pain and anguish we face as parents of a daughter who is working to recover from the dangerous actions she took while suffering a devastating heartbreak” and say “The story … is filled with vicious lies and attempts to smear our character and that of our beloved daughter.”
The mean, hurtful reports also claim that Christie trash talked Billy to their daughter, and suggested that Alexa Ray isn’t as pretty as her mother, noting that she “bears a striking resemblance to her dad.”
