The world was stunned Sunday, Dec. 20, with the news of Brittany Murphy‘s death, and from the moment the news broke more information has emerged.
Reports from this morning:
- Brittany was “sick and vomiting” in the hours before she died of cardiac arrest, reports TMZ. Brittany’s mother told paramedics rhat Brittany suffered from type 2 diabetes.What’s more, says TMZ, Brittany was taking prescription medicine for”flu-like symptoms” and had told family members she was “very ill” over the weekend.
- Coroner’s Capt. John Kades tells People that “foul play is not suspected at this time because there were no outward signs of trauma or other injuries.”
- “The family is very distraught,” Ed Winter, the assistant chief coroner for L.A. County, told HollywoodLife.com exclusively. This was just a short time after Brittany’s mom, Sharon, returned home.
- Brittany’s family released this statement to HollywoodLife.com: “The sudden loss of our beloved Brittany is a terrible tragedy. She was our daughter, our wife, our love and a shining star. We ask you to respect our privacy at this time.”

- Brittany Murphy’s husband, screenwriter/ director Simon Monjack , told the hospital staff that he didn’t want an autopsy performed on Brittany, according to TMZ, but the L.A. County Coroner’s Office has announced that nevetheless an autopsy will be performed on Mon or Tues.
- A source tells HollywoodLife.com that Simon was holed up in their home, crying and shaking his head this afternoon. A bodyguard, several family members and a coroner were also present.

- Sadly, Brittany looked extremely skinny at a Dec. 1 event in Hollywood. Celebrities, including Brittany’s ex-boyfriend Ashton Kutcher, have been tweeting their condolences and sharing their thoughts on Brittany.
- Brittany was transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 10:04 a.m.
- A neighbor of Brittany told HollywoodLife.com exclusively that Brittany looked yellow when paramedics arrived.
- Paramedics reportedly performed CPR on Brittany when it was determined she was in full cardiac arrest.
- Though it hasn’t been confirmed, TMZ reports that Brittany’s mom, Sharon Murphy, found her unconscious in the shower.
- The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to an 8 a.m. call from the home of Brittany’s husband, screenwriter Simon Monjack.
