Randy Jackson is one pouting puppy now that his American Idol BFF, Paula Abdul, has officially left the hit Fox singing show.

“The Paula thing is really near and dear to my heart,” the Idol judge, 53, told reports Jan. 8. “She’s one of my best friends. She’s one of all of our best friends, and I miss [working with her].

He added wistfully, “We look down the table sometimes and go, ‘Where’s Paula?’ It’s going to take a little getting used to.”

As for the rumors Paula, 47, has signed on to appear as a judge on Simon Cowell’s Americanized version of X-Factor [a similar British talent show], he said evasively, “I wish her the best in the world and I know she’s going to be back in something in a huge way, because she’s mad talented. If anything, I say ‘Expect the unexpected.’ You never know.”

But the gold star question still remains: will Simon , 50, be leaving Idol after its ninth season, as reported? “I really don’t know. Until I hear it from him, I’m not going to believe anything,” the producer stated neutrally.

Smooth move, Jackson. Airing Simon’s secrets will only land you one place – and that’s the dog house!
