Are you bummed to see this Spider-Man franchise end, too?

The end of the Spider-Man franchise doesn’t just mark the end of Tobey Maguire‘s turn as the high-flying web slinger — it also marks the end of Kirsten Dunst‘s journey as Spider-Man’s redheaded beauty, Mary Jane! “It made me sad but I think that [director Sam Raimi] was ready to move on,” Kirsten told HollywoodLife.com exclusively Jan. 16 at The Art of Elysium’s Third Annual Black Tie Charity Gala. “I respect that decision, and we did it for ten years now, so that’s been a long time and we’re all like very close. I’m excited to see what Sony turns it into next.”

But Kirsten won’t just be missing her time on the big screen. She’s also bummed that her alter ego, Mary Jane, won’t be as readily available to do charity work! “You realize the effect that film has on people and these little kids who love Spider-Man films, or see me in other movies, that they you know they look up to me,” she told us. If I can go tothe hospital and read them a book and brighten their day and they’re so excited that Mary Jane came to hang out in the hospital. That’s a huge and really simple thing that I can do.”

Aww! We had no idea Kirsten did so much good with her high-profile role. Hopefully she’ll keep it up, even if Mary Jane is going M.I.A.
