Wu-Hoo! Stars Can’t Get Enough of Breakout Designer Jason Wu!
Can you imagine being just 27 and already you’re ruling Hollywood red carpets and the White House? If your name is Jason Wu and you’re a designer, then that’s the envy-worthy position you’re in.
Since Jason Wu actually started his career designing outfits for for Barbie dolls, it’s no wonder that real-life dolls like Jessica Alba, Kristen Stewart and Natalie Portman get decked out for big night outs in his young, glammy dresses.
Though Wu’s first full collection debuted in 2006, it wasn’t until First Lady Michelle Obama wore one of his raw silk dresses on a Barbara Walters special during the President’s campaign in November 2008, that the world really started to take notice . The First Lady then shocked fashionistas when she passed over the usual suspects – super established designers like Osar de la Renta – and blew away the Inaugural Ball crowds in a Jason Wu white one shoulder silk-chiffon-and-Swarovski-crystal gown custom designed for the HUGE night of President Obama’s Inauguration. The First Lady has since worn his looks yes, a sleeveless dress -for the cover of Vogue, and to meet the Queen of England! Not bad!
Lady O isn’t the only person who’s been Wu-ed! Diane Kruger— just lit up the red carpet at the 2010 SAG Awards in one of Wu’s mustard gowns and other Wu addicts include January Jones and Natalie Portman.
