If you’d nearly given up on Andrew like I did, you’re probably also as happy as I am about his big Idol comeback last night!
HollyWho-Knew that Chris Brown could actually have a positive effect on someone? Andrew Garcia finally proved why he deserves a spot on American Idol March 30 with his rendition of Chris’ hit single “Forever.” Welcome back, my friend. I missed you!
The 24-year-old Moreno Valley, Calif. native has – well – sucked in recent weeks; he seemed to have lost his musical identity. But Andrew always had greatness in him – I STILL play his Hollywood Week rendition of Paula Abdul’s “Straight Up” on my iPod (on repeat, yes).
Who else rocked the hiz-ouse on Idol’s R&B night? Well, duh…Crystal Bowersox, of course. The 24-year-old hippy from Elliston, Ohio utterly killed it on Gladys Knight’s “Midnight Train to Georgia.” Not only did she sing it perfectly and emotionally (I may or may not have even cried a little, don’t laugh) but she played the piano AND wore heels! Simon Cowell gave her the best advice though: “You know who you are,” he said. “Don’t try to change it just to be different.” Are you listening, Kara DioGuardi? Don’t mess with my girl’s head! She’s perfect just the way she is.
Also awesome was Lee DeWyze, who finally showed some star-making qualities with his cover of the Cornelius Brothers’ “Treat Her Like a Lady.” The 23-year-old has a rough, gravely quality to his voice that’s just gorgeous, but he never seems to know where to put his notes – and his failure to make eye contact with the audience is just weird (and yes, I know he’s shy – but get over it! You’re on American Idol, man!).
Finally, props to Usher, who was the best mentor we’ve seen yet this season on Idol. He actually offered some critical advice and made some useful fashion comments, too. Which means, Siobhan Magnus, you should take a listen – your wacky outfits are totally distracting from your amazing range!

I thought Chris Brown’s positive contribution to Andrew’s AI future was ironic as well :)
Agree with you on all of last night’s winners, but what about the LOSERS ??????
1. Teflon Tim-even vote-for-the worst can’t save you now.
2. Didi-if your goal was to perform cabaret in a dinner theater you’re all set. This competition isn’t just about being ‘pretty’though. I keep picturing Michelle Pfeiffer in The Fabulous Baker Boys. Is that who you’re channeling?
3. Katie-You’re no teen-queen of SOUL. I wish Usher would have given you some fashion advise too. What were you thinking wearing Paige’s little romper?

I’m trying to figure out who my favorite person is this season. And by favorite person, I clearly mean the person who is the least disappointing. I’m thinking either Crystal or Casey … but at the end of the day, I don’t think either of them would hold a candle to previous Idol winners.
Also… SO GLAD Simon finally pointed out how boring Siobhan’s screaming has become. Yes, it was impressive at first, but now it’s mainly just to distract us from how uneven her performances are. If she’s not belting, she’s not good, and that’s bad news for someone who hopes to make singing her career.

i agree re siobhan, sigh… i wanted her to be better, but she really is only good when she’s screaming. she S U C K S in other parts (don’t know the lingo re registers and such). as to the rest… there are good people besides casey and crystal! andrew, lee… katie and aaron are actually starting to grow on me, too- b/c they’re so CUTE in their youngness! (though tim urban, please, be GONE with yours…)
