For once, the animal-rights agitators PETA actually APPLAUD a celebrity — Angelina Jolie — for treating animals right … she actually checked to make sure her horsehair bag wasn’t hurting horses before she bought it !

Ok, so I knew Angelina Jolie was a humanitarian, but did you know her interests extended to the animal kingdom? I didn’t! On March 27 the starlet stepped out with her children in Venice carying an Akris ecru horsehair handbag ― but before she carried the purse she insisted her assistant speak to the designer to confirm that animals weren’t mistreated! HollywoodLife.com spoke to a PETA representative exclusively, who told us, “Angelina has proved time and time again to be a kind person ― most recently when she insisted that the fur coat that she wore in Salt be faux. So it comes as no surprise that she was concerned about the origin of the horsehair in the bag that she was given. Our hope is that the designer respected her wishes and good intentions and told her the truth about the origins of the horsehair that he uses, since horsehair ordinarily comes from horses killed violently in slaughterhouses.”

Akris designer Albert Kriemler told WWD that when Angie’s assistant inquired about the bag, “We told her horses get haircuts just like we do.”

So, could Angelina’s love for animals land her on the next PETA campaign? It sure looks like it! When asked if they would be interested in Angie endorsing the organization they quickly responded, “Anytime, Anywhere!”
