We thought Simon was quitting American Idol to focus on his new show, X-Factor — boy, were we wrong!
Simon Cowell led us to believe this was his final season of American Idol because he was ready to pursue other endeavors — but today he told his friend and co-worker Ryan Seacrest it’s actually HIS fault he’s saying goodbye!
“You changed last year,” Simon, 50, said on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show May 25, jokingly blaming his departure on the 35-year-old host.
“I remember we were on a plane one afternoon and I knew I was going to be sitting with you for the entire six hours. You were listening to Miley Cyrus, singing — what’s that song? I’m listening to you sing Miley Cyrus, ‘Party in the USA.’ You know when someone’s got their headphones on really loud, singing out of tune really loud, and you played it five times in a row? I actually thought, ‘I can’t do this anymore.’ It was the fact that you were enjoying it.”
Ryan apparently had no idea he was the catalyst behind Simon’s sad exit after nine incredible seasons.
“I feel guilty that I was the reason you made this decision,” he said, joking.
We’re bummed too! Tonight is Simon’s last night on Idol and we’re going to miss his and Ryan’s hysterical banter more than anything! What’s YOUR favorite memory of Simon Cowell on American Idol?
