‘Drop Dead Diva’ Star Margaret Cho: Big Girls Need Love Too!
Why does Hollywood have an obsession with looking unhealthy? Margaret says that’s just not right!
Skinny girls aren’t the only gals that got the goods — big girls are beautiful too! Drop Dead Diva “is about celebrating beauty in all sizes and shapes and forms,” says Margaret Cho, who plays Teri Lee on the Lifetime drama.”That’s really powerful, and I feel like this is something that’s really needed in Hollywood!”
“It’s needed everywhere,” continues Margaret. “I think that they can just feel really comfortable with themselves and feel really good about who they are.”
Maragret sincerely hopes that the show — about a 24 year-old model that drops dead and comes back to life in the body of an overweight attorney — makes a difference in the way women perceive beauty.
“I think shows like this have a tremendous weight and power to effect people,” she explains. “If you can really just show how beautiful somebody is who is larger, somebody who is plus size, but who is also gorgeous and also living a fabulous life — you see it’s not about the weight.”
“You look at it as an advantage or just another attribute of the beauty of a woman,” Margaret adds. “I think that’s really great. Television is very powerful!”
The second season of Drop Dead Diva premieres this Sunday, June 6, at 9:00 p.m. on Lifetime.

Love the article, but it would be a lot better if it weren’t sandwiched in between photos of stick figures like a half naked Katy Perry, Angelina Jolie, Lady Gaga, etc. Instead of just paying lip service to beauty beyond a size 2, how about some photos of Erika Christensen, Queen Latifah, Kate Winslet, Nikki Blonsky, Delta Burke, Sara Ramirez, etc.?
