Courteney is LONG overdue for an Emmy! Besides, is Lea even funny?
I was in total agreement with the Emmy nominations announced July 8… until it came time for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. There were the usual suspects like Tina Fey and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, both of whom I agree belonged on the list, but when I saw Lea Michele nominated for Glee over Courteney Cox for Cougar Town, I couldn’t believe my eyes.
Not only is Cougar Town one of the most under-appreciated comedies on TV right now, but Courteney’s Jules became consistently funnier and more engaging throughout the show’s first season. Meanwhile, Lea’s Rachel never stopped being annoying — and never started being funny.
And this is hardly the first time Courteney has been snubbed by the Emmys. During Friends‘ 10-season run, Courteney was the only to never receive a nomination. Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer were all recognized for their work.
Courteney is hilarious. She at least deserves to be nominated for an Emmy. Case closed.
But you tell me: Am I crazy? Does Lea, in fact, deserve the Emmy nom over Courteney?

I completely disagree. Nothing against Courteney Cox, but Lea Michele carried Glee through the entire first season. She’s an incredibly talented actress – both funny and sensitive – and her Emmy nomination is well deserved. Congratulations, Lea!

this makes me laugh, you’re an idiot, lea michele is hilarious. to say the lea doesnt deserve it and courtney does is just stupid, im sure if courtney was talented enough to get one she already would have, like how old is she? and how long has she been an actress?
and personally i dont even find cougar town amusing.

Lea is perfect for Rachel Berry. I think some people just don’t get Rachel. She is misunderstood and reverts back to her drama queen ways when she is feeling attacked or unsure of herself. But underneath it all she is a vulnerable 15 year just trying to make it through High School.
Lea pulls off that drama queen role so well and has us laughing at the over the top gestures and statements, “I’m like Tinkerbell Finn, I NEED applause to live” and then bam, Lea has you wiping a tear from your eye with a look or a quiver of her lip when she is shot down again. From laughing to heartbreak in a second. Then there is the singing, emotional from being made as hell, “Gives you Hell:, to wanting, dreaming ‘I dreamed a dream”, to first broken heart in ‘Take a bow”. Some even question the lead part but without a doubt the moment she stepped on the scene in the pilot and they began telling her story she was the lead of the show and the glee club. Lea undoubtedly has the most dialog, the most songs and on top of it has dance numbers for the whole group numbers as well as for her individual songs.

Well, for me, Lea really deserves the Emmy nod. Rachel is one of most unique heroine for me. Lea can make Rachel believable & well liked by most Glee fans despite her flaws. Rachel’s character must be acted in such a careful way b’coz just slight mistake will easily turn people to hate her. Even people who doesn’t like Glee usually still acknowledged Lea’s acting.

Thank goodness, people voting on this poll seem to have more sense than you. Lea is winning.

Honestly I think if Courtney made it , the actress who would not have made it would have been Julia. Lea does an outstanding job as Rachel Berry. Being able to make a such a driven, high maintenance character likable it not small feat. Add in the drama, the dancing and the singing you got something. I think Lea was fourth on the list and the other two spots where up for grabs. Lea was going to be nominated others were on the bubble IMO.

okay, i watch neither show- love courtney, but want lea’s school girl outfit. as for the noms, andy, c’mon- with all the glee hype, how could you think cougar would get a nomination over it? c’mon now, isn’t that just cynical sense? it’s not about whose better, is it?

Hype can help but that doesn’t mean Lea doesn’t deserve the nod. She really has made Rachel Berry an great character. Her facial expressions alone could win awards.

Just becasue you don’t get the humor in Rachel Berry doesn’t mean she isn’t funny.
Toni Collette may have to act in multiply personalities. Lea has to be multi-talented.
Nothing against Courtney but Lea deserves this nomination. Go back and watch Run Joey Run video is was too funny thanks to Lea Michele.

Comedic performances nowadays have more to do with all around performance than just one aspect of a performance. The argument that you give above about Cox being “funnier” can also be applied to Toni Collette and Edie Falco. Neither on of those actresses gives a particularly straight comedic performance, yet both were deservedly nominated. While Courteney Cox was funny, Lea Michele tackled comedy, drama, as well as outstanding musical numbers on a weekly basis, and did all three wonderfully.
Whether ‘Glee’ and its actors should have been nominated in the comedy section is up for debate, but Lea is most certainly deserving of her nomination.

i couldn’t agree more with this entire comment. it’s called a multi-faceted performance for a reason.

I’m with Michael, Lea Michele deserved her nom. Rachel Berry is annoying, funny, drama queen, diva and amazing, and Lea is great playing her.

Nice post and I agree. Rachel Berry is a very amusing character and I don’t think another actress could pull that off.
