What WON’T happen in Glee’s second season? A white lie is exposed, a power couple is made…and Terri Schuester is back to wreak havoc!

Calling all Gleeks! Are you ready for the motherlode of Glee gossip? Creator Ryan Murphy discussed his hit Fox show at the Writer’s Guild Theatre in LA July 12, and revealed everything from Finn and Rachel’s future to which special guest stars will be returning for more – and whether or not Britney Spears is actually planning on making a cameo! So what should you look forward to seeing when the show returns September 21? Here’s what Ryan, 44, had to say…

Rachel & Finn
Hoorah! Sometimes, the nerdy girl does get the guy (even if it’s just on TV). Ryan revealed that our favorite odd couple, Rachel Barry (Lea Michele) and Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith) will stay together for the duration of the second season. Murphy also dished about the sex-capades (real and pretend), that the two characters ‘fessed up to.

“The thing about that is that Rachel did not sleep with Jesse,” Ryan said. “She lied that she did, but she didn’t go through with it. Finn did [go through with it], but the whole point of that was for a guy to say ‘I wish I had waited,’ as opposed to “Yeah!!” That discussion will certainly come up because [Rachel] does not know that, but that’s a whole episode right there. … When she finds out, what will she do?”

The tyranny of evil Terri
Uh-oh! Terri Shuester’s (Jessalyn Gilsig) back – and she’ll be on the prowl for fresh meat! How will Will (Matthew Morrison) deal? “We love writing for [Terri],” Ryan said. “I think what she needs to do is date somebody who would make Will puke green with jealousy. She needs to figure out who that person is – it’s not the school principal, for one. We’re making a very narrow list of candidates.”

Guest-stars galore!
Sorry, Gleeks, but Britney Spears won’t be making a stop at McKinley during season 2 – but DO expect the return of Josh Groban. “It’s Lima, Ohio – it’s hard!” Ryan laughed. But you can expect more tribute episodes, a la the Britney episode. Ryan revealed that they’ll have at least two next season!

Also returning: Kristin Chenoweth (who plays glee club alum April Rhodes), and there’s a chance that Jonathan Groff (Rachel’s ex-BF Jesse St. James) will make a comeback sometime later in the year. “Those are all amazing people,” Ryan gushed. “We wrote those parts for those people. …Hopefully we’ll make their song selections very soon.” Other stars Murphy has his fingers crossed might also return include Neil Patrick Harris, who played Bryan Ryan, and Idina Menzel, who played rival glee coach (and Rachel’s birth mom) Shelby Corcoran.

The other kids get more screen time!
So Rachel, Finn and our other faves are obvs going to be back in a big way. But what about the rest of the Glee club? Not to worry, they won’t be left out!

“We’re writing it in the scripts right now,” Murphy said. “When we did this little mini-tour [of] several cities, we went to Radio City Music Hall and Heather [Morris] (Brittany) and Naya [Rivera] (Santana Lopez) just flipped the roof off. You sit in the back and … just want to start writing for them!

“Same thing with the character of Mike Chang,” he continued. “What I love about this show is that so many people see themselves as a specific type of character and there are so many access points to start to explore. …For this second season, we have these guests and these people we want to write toward that people have become invested in.”
