After six years, MTV finally revealed the show was totally scripted!
People have been speculating for the past six years about whether or not The Hills was actually real — but on the July 13 series finale, MTV decided to come clean! The last moments of the episode explained everything: The camera slowly zoomed out to see that Brody Jenner and Kristin Cavallari’s tearful goodbye was completely staged and filmed on a set in LA. Kudos to you MTV for finally owning up to your scripted reality show that made millions — and sorry to the rest of you who were actually surprised to learn that the show was fake. Santa Claus isn’t real either, by the way.
I guess the only thing that was real was on the show was Heidi Montag‘s plastic surgery — and unfortunately for her, that’s permanent.

The fact that so many people could watch more than one episode and not realize that it is simply a scripted drama made with a reality TV angle simply shows how gullible, and well… dumb, a large segment the population is.
If people would spend just half the time on educating themselves or staying current with matters of importance we would all be much better off.
How many people out there still think WWF/WWE (“Pro Wrestling”) is real? Raise your hands please.

I don’t think the ending was meant to be literal. We all know it was a show, and its basically saying that “this is the end”. It didn’t mean it was ALL FAKE;lots of things were planned but, the ending was fake just to show that its really “goodbye” to the show. There no more cameras anymore, no more building up of these semi-fake relationships; now we separate and go our own way. I guess it was just meant to be clever ending since they are in the “Hollywood Hills” why not make the ending really “Hollywood-ish” :)

The funniest part is that the cast didn’t even know it was fake until the end!

I relaized it was fake when Spencer became obsessed with Lauren and began a smear campaign with the help of Heidi againt her in the press because Lauren didn’t take any legal action.
No woman would be fine with their boyfriend being obsessed with their former best friend even if hatured is the cause of their obsession and no one would stand by and do nothing while someone is trying to destroy their rep.

i alwaysthought laguna hills was real. and I thought the hills with lauren was real up until right after the BIG fight with heidi. After that it seemed staged. I doubt spencer is that big of a nut job its all for the money!!! I have no idea why heidi got surgury. but whatevs it has nothing to do with the show. she knew the hills was up so she tried to expand for a new show.. ect. if heidiand spencer acted all nice noone would gibve a rats ass about them. this way people have been talking u know?

Wait it was TOTALLY scripted? I’m a huge fan and yeah obviously not EVERYTHING could’ve been real but did they really script every single date, fight, etc.? ‘Cause Holly and Stephanie admitted that they hadn’t talked to Speidi since September so all that drama couldn’t have been scripted. I find that kinda impossible to have everything written out. oh and there’s no way Spencer is in his right mind…

It doesn’t surprise me, but i still loved the show.
However, I find it hard to believe that Spencer is mentally stable. If he i, and all of his tantrums and flip outs were fake, He should win an Oscar.

As an avid Hills fan who’s been defending the show’s authenticity since Laguna Beach, I am disgusted that the producers chose the ending that they did. Basically insulting fans for believing in the show… sort of feels like we got punked. I think it’s outrageous! Obviously I knew that they would stage shoots, but to insinuate that not only are the locations, but the entire plot is completely bogus is just insulting.
