WATCH! Pop-Dance Sensation Matisse Talks About Plastic Surgery & Meeting Justin Bieber!
BFFs, we just can’t get enough of Matisse! The 24-year-old singer came to our NYC office and dished about her upcoming single with Ne-Yo!
Listen up HollywoodLifers, because Matisse knows where it’s at! HollywoodLife.com got up close and personal with Jive Records’ newest hit maker Matisse (aka Brit Smith) on Aug. 11 when she visited our NYC headquarters.
The platinum blonde’s song “Better Than Her” is #1 on the dance Billboard charts and she told us what it was like when she first heard her song on the radio!
“I was in the car in Connecticut with my father,” she recalls. “I was listening to Sirius, so I heard the dance remix. It was a very surreal experience. It almost didn’t feel like me in a way. I almost felt separated from it. I always thought about what it would feel like to have this moment and it was definitely really cool.”
You might recognize Matisse from her days as the face of John Freida with her twin sister Alex Smith. The two were signed to Ford Models in NYC before they were discovered by Interscope music producer Jimmy Iovine. But this popstar doesn’t want to just be famous. She wants to set a good example — and she totally thinks young girls should stay away from plastic surgery!
“I want to be empowering for girls … my song ‘Better Than Her’ is about taking what you want in life and not being afraid someone could do something better than you,” she says. “As for plastic surgery, if something is really bothering you that makes you so unhappy, then I guess go ahead and do it, but Botox in your twenties seems insane!”
Someone Matisse thinks does a great job of balancing it all is Beyoncé!
“Beyoncé is my role model,” she tells us. “She’s done it better than anybody. Song after song while remaining classy and edgy. She’s the person I look up to the most!”

So refreshing to listen to someone with a brain! I always find popsters so affected and pretentious with opinions (Gaga interview in vanity fair was frankly embarrassing) but matisse seems completely authentic.
MATISSE!! LISTEN UP – please don’t change – keep being you.
