22-year-old Jimena Navarrete takes the crown in Donald Trump’s annual pageant becoming the second Mexican woman to walk away with the title!
After donning a national costume, swimsuit, ball gown, and answering questions about Arizona’s controversial immigration law, Miss Mexico Jimena Navarrete was crowned Miss Universe on Aug. 23 in Las Vegas. Jimena beat out fan favorite Venus Raj of the Philippines who seemed to alienate judges when she answered a question about her biggest mistake and how she fixed it by replying, “In my 22 years of existence, I can say there is nothing major.”
Jimena meanwhile had incredibly elegant and thought out responses to her questions, answering the aforementioned immigration query by telling judges, “Every country has the right to impose and enact their laws, but I tell you that all the Mexicans and the Latins that are living here in the United States are hardworking people — people who want to improve on their quality of life.”
Miss USA Rima Fakih failed to make it into the Top 15 but did wow in her gold eagle costume, a tribute she said to President Obama.
First runner-up was Miss Jamaica Yendi Phillipps, while second runner-up was Miss Australia Jesinta Campbell.
For her victory, Jimena won a undisclosed sum of money, a luxury New York apartment, jewelry, clothes, shoes, and a scholarship to the New York Film Academy.
Among the celebrity judges at the event were Evan Lysacek, Jane Seymour, Chynna Phillips, Chazz Palminteri, William Baldwin, magician Criss Angel, MSNBC anchor Tamron Hall, Sheila E., and supermodel Niki Taylor.

Yayyy for Mexico but Miss Jamaica was flawless. USA never made the top 15 she shouldnt even be mentioned. She was not a good choice to represent USA. Not beautiful at all and body was horrible. Hope USA steps up next year.

Miss Jamaica was first runner up, not Miss Phillipines or Miss USA. Why isn’t she in your article? Shoddy reporting on your part.
