I’ve been closely following the fifth season of NBC’s hit talent show, BUT my jaw dropped wide open and stayed that way, when Michael Grimm was announced the winner last night!
I must admit I’m not a huge fan of reality competition shows like American Idol or SYTYCD, but this past season of America’s Got Talent has been an obsession of mine! I’ve been very vocal about wanting the adorable 10-year-old phenomenon, Jackie Evancho to win, and let me tell you, that little girl was robbed on the season finale Sept. 15!
I thought the Pennsylvania native with the angelic voice had it in the bag when she performed the beloved song “Ave Maria” in the finals, but obviously not! I realize that Michael Grimm, 30, has a beautiful voice too, and yes I loved his version of “When A Man Loves A Woman” … but come on — we have enough singers like Michael! Michael’s talent is supposed to be discovered on shows like American Idol, a show which Jackie isn’t even old enough to compete on!
Judge Piers Morgan said he believed Michael was “genuine, sincere and talented” and so do I, but Jackie hands down was the bigger talent — and isn’t that what this is about?
Either way, I’m happy Jackie got the exposure she deserves, and I’m sure she’ll go on to be a mega-superstar. But I’m sticking to my opinion HollywoodLifers: Jackie should have won!

If I was Jackie’s parents and I felt she had a very good chance of taking the prize I would have had a nice family chat. The family would have had to move, disrupting a family of 6, their home, friends, etc. I would have asked the producers to ensure she didn’t win. She didn’t need to win. She’s just a little girl and Vegas is not what she needed. She is already a star & got recognized. She just needed to get into the final two & even then she would have become a star.

The wrong person won but for the right reason.Why would Jackie want to perform in Las Vegas,i believe if it had been just the money she would have won.It could be the american public felt Jackie is so good she is going to earn millions anyway.I have been a Mario Lanza Fan for over 60 years but i just cannot stop listening to Jackie.I bought Dream with me two weeks ago and it is fantastic. Her rendition of Nessun Dorma is out of this world.I will follow her career but from a distance as i live in England

Vegas hype is the major factor behind Jackie’s not winning. What was Las Vegas’s involvement? Its a one day tour stop. Americas Got talent has tried to weave Las Vegas into the fabric of it’s show since season 1 in 2006. If they continue to do it they will destroy the chances of child acts in future shows. Bianca Ryan won in 2006 because AGT dropped the prize of a Vegas headlining act and replaced it with one million dollars. They also dropped all the Vegas hype that year. There is a moral thread of voters who will not send a child to sin city. It will be interesting when season six starts to see if AGT has lost viewers after being the determining factor in who won season five. People should be outraged that AGT hypes Vegas over other cities to the detriment of child acts.

Yea – I’m still shaking my head in amazement. I too am not a great fan of realty tv shows but have enjoyed watching AGT this year. Jackie should have won hands down and I don’t understand why she didn’t. She had the talent to win. I think it was sad to see the end. Don’t know if I will watch it again after this…

What is it with some reality show watchers. It never fails that whenever someone wins a reality show contest, whining begins of how America picked wrong and that the runner up should have won. I have to wonder how those people deal with losing in their own life.
Hopefully Jackie Evancho is more classy at losing than then some of her fans.
