Why oh why is Sesame Street banning Katy Perry’s breasts?
The resident diva Miss Piggy, has worn FAR more revealing outfits in her 36 years on the show than the California gurl sported in her new video with Elmo. Yet Katy Perry‘s video has been dumped from airing on PBS.
Don’t believe me about Miss Piggy? Just check out our gallery of Miss Piggy pictures. Miss Piggy has gone bare bottomless — yes BARE! She’s worn a black lacy see-thru top with NO bra and she’s worn plunging — seriously plunging neck lines many times!
So I ask you — is Katy Perry a victim of discrimination and if so, which kind? Is it diva discrimination — she’s not as egotastic as Miss Piggy? Is it human discrimination — cleavage is ok on a pig, but not on a human Perry? Or is it Sesame Street A -List discrimination — Miss Piggy is the STAR of the show, and Katy is not?
Elmo is clearly embarrssed by the anti-katy decision made by the bosses. “Elmo loves Ms. Katy and we had a good time,” he told Good Morning America‘s George Stephanopoulos, this morning, Sept. 24. “so we’ll have another playdate.”
Not surprisingly Katy’s fiance Russell Brand is standing by his woman, tweeting “Today’s Sesame Street will NOT be brought to you by the number 34 or the letter D.”
So Sesame Street — so what if Katy Perry’s breasts bounced a bit when she ran during the video — normal women’s breasts do bounce! It’s not fair for her video to be punished because Miss Piggy’s breasts don’t bounce!

Kids are oblivious to most jokes, risqué clothing, risqué lyrics, etc. for quite a long time. Generally at least aged 10 before they start catching on to innuendo, double entendre and the like. That’s why Disney can get away with little quips like:
Little Mermaid
“Darlin’ it’s better down where it’s wetter, take it from me.”
Aladdin
Arabian nights
Like Arabian days
More often than not
Are hotter than hot
In a lot of good ways
It’s just a little something to keep the parents entertained while watching with their little ones.
I showed the video to my 5 and 7 year olds and asked them to tell me what they thought and they mostly just said it was silly and cute. They liked the song.

Hi my name is Bonnie Fuller. I supposedly write about show business for a living. I can’t tell the difference between Sesame Street, a daytime show on PBS, and The Muppet Show, a prime time show that was on commercial TV. I hope you enjoy reading my ridiculous column!

Miss Piggy has never been a Sesame Street regular! She is from The Muppet Show which is in fact targeted at an adult audience. She basically she can wear what she wants.
I don’t get what the all the fuss is about Katy wearing that dress! The average person who watches Sesame Street is about 5 years old; they aren’t going to be paying particular attention to what she’s wearing!

I was going to say the same, regarding Miss Piggy being a Muppets character, not a Sesame Street character.
And, actually, today’s kids are pretty savvy about risque clothing. Some are more aware than others. Better to err on the side of caution. But in actuality, the skit didn’t seem to be as “revealing” as that promo shot of Katy and Elmo. I agree that it would not have been a problem.

You would think this site, which reads like it’s written by children, would know a think or two about children’s television. Miss Piggy was not a “Sesame Street” regular.

in fairness, it has been almost 30 years since miss piggy’s show was canceled. it is a common mistake, confusing muppets and sesame street characters, and most of bonnie’s workers weren’t even born when the muppet show was canceled.

Bonnie, you OBVIOUSLY haven’t watched Sesame Street in the past 10 years…Miss Piggy is no longer on there. Even when she was a regular, she did NOT wear the risque outfits shown in the pics you selected. Those pics are from her calendars, posters and videos – NOT Sesame Street. In the future, please get your facts straight before you publish an opinion based on lies and half-truths.

i think you might have been taking bonnie’s post a little too seriously… she was just having fun. and, as far as getting facts straight, i’m pretty sure miss piggy was NEVER a regular on sesame street. she’s a muppet show character- and that was a show that aired in the evening for adults (tho some kids, like me, watched).

It is Kermit who was on sesame street but she has been on the show. i am a huge fan of miss piggy have been since i was little. i watched Muppet babies all the time. i think the reason her dress was the way it was because she was dressing like a barbie. that is a norm type top for a barbie. i think the part of the video that was bad was her lip sinking it was to noticeable. did they say that is the reason for pulling it or was there more to it and the media is not stating all the facts?

Miss Piggy has NEVER been on Sesame Street! She was a muppet used in movies and on the muppet show. She was never a puppet on Sesame Street. This reporter needs to learn how to do research.

Ok, I am not a prude by any means but come on. Miss Piggy is a puppet. Everyone knows she’s a puppet, even kids. I never thought once about her sexy outfits when I was a kid cause she was…a puppet. Katy Perry is not. I like Katy Perry but in this one instance I think she could have covered up the boobs. I know, I know, she’s wearing a “mesh” on part of her chest but it’s flesh colored and it’s not like you cant see through it. Kinda a cop out in the “coverage” department. It’s a kids show, check your boobs at the door this one time. Kinda a tacky move by both the show and Perry. I like Perry but lets leave the cleavage to the people who are not still learning the alphabet.

lol… bonnie, i love this. there’s one problem though- miss piggy is not a sesame street character! the muppet show was an evening show, was it not? that’s when i recall watching it… but, you’re right, miss piggy’s outfits have been quite suggestive over the years! lol…

“How the hell did The Muppet Show ever get on the air? Imagine it from a TV executive’s point of view: a weekly variety show, in an old vaudeville theater, featuring puppets, and a mix of A, B and C-list celebrities that catered to both kids and adults. That’s not a pitch… it’s a just list of random words that don’t go together. Unfortunately, it’s that weirdness that’s been lost to the ages, as these days the Muppets are remembered more as a kids’ show instead of the more adult, primetime comedy it was.”
