Wouldn’t it be fun if your dad was the president of the U.S.? For Sasha, 9, and Malia, 12, it’s business as usual — and they even get tired of it!

The First Lady sat down with Ellen today, Oct 28, and dished about living in the White House and protecting her daughters from all the chaos that comes with the presidency. According to Michelle, the family had the opportunity to redecorate the residential area of the White House to make it feel more like home, and they didn’t waste any time. The girls’ rooms were the first to get makeovers.

Sasha and Malia play a crucial role in their parents’ lives, explains Michelle, “They keep us grounded. They have been so unimpressed by all this.” In fact, when it came time for Malia’s student-teacher conference, she didn’t want her dad, Barack, to come because of all his “commotion.” They like being normal kids!

Ellen asked another question that everyone wonders about: Are the girls aware of people criticizing their dad? Michelle answered, “Fortunately they’re pretty young and they’re not watching the news — they watch Disney, so they’re fairly shielded. But when they have questions we talk about it honestly about it.”

Just like Michelle, she always has the right answer!
