After calling off their engagement in August, Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen appear to be back together. Is it a smart move to reconnect with an ex?

It was a shock to everyone when dream couple Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen suddenly called off their engagement this summer. But now, a friend of the 29-year-old actress says the two are back together — and not shy about rekindling their romance. But is it wise to repeat history with an ex-lover?

In this case, I don’t think it’s problematic. Although Rachel, 29, had a brief flirtation with Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford in September, both she and Hayden, also 29, had remained single and focused on their work for the past few months and don’t seem to be over the other. A reason behind their split was reportedly distance; she is based in Los Angeles and he’s living in his home country of Canada.

But should YOU ever get back together with an ex? Again, it depends on the situation. If your only problem, like Hayden and Rachel, was distance, then I say YES! You still click, and the only factor holding you back is an outside problem — location.

If you broke up because of more serious issues — his wandering eye, addiction problems, fundamental differences in values — then perhaps the relationship wasn’t meant to last. Just remember, everything in life is a learning experience, and you’ll be able to gauge if a repeat performance with someone you once cared about is worth it in the long run!
