Amber faces up to three years in jail & up to $10,000 in fines!
Amber Portwood is finally facing consequences for her violent actions against baby daddy Gary Shirley. Amber, 20, was officially charged Nov. 18 with two felony counts and one misdemeanor for domestic violence and battery. Under Indiana law, an incident of domestic abuse is considered a felony if a child is present for the abuse — which baby Leah was in both cases. Interestingly, one of the two felonies is based on footage never aired by MTV. As HollywoodLife.com told you first, the court subpoenaed MTV for all raw footage from Teen Mom.
The two incidents related to the felony charges occurred Aug. 14, 2009, and July 18, 2010, while the misdemeanor incident (in which Leah was not present) occurred June 14, 2010. Official documents state that Amber choked, slapped, punched and kicked Gary, 24, in their home.
Public Information Offer, Detective Mitch Carroll, tells us Amber will likely be issued a warrant through the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office. According to a press release, “the affidavit has been submitted to the prosecutor for formal charges. If convicted, Portwood faces up to three years in jail and fines of up to $10,000.”

Amber really needs some counseling. im not sure if she was raised wrong or what but i understand having a child young is very stressful, i am a young mom myself and have had numerous arguments with the father of my child but ive never hit anyone because of it. she was a great mommy to leah until she started dating. she should have never let another man change her daughters diapers. thats opening the door to many other things. not saying hes a molester, but you never know how people are.

Both this “Amber” creature and that fat slob who knocked her up should be forcibly sterilized until they can prove that they’re got their lives together. The kids should be put up for adoption by a real family. The future of the US should not be left to people like this.

People don’t understand what the stress factors are for abuse. It could be anything from personality factors to money issues. Being young isn’t always easy and with a child creates limitations in not being able to go and do what you please. You have responsibility there are also differences in how you and your significant other react as well.
Many couples either have mechinisms that help them cope cooling off in an argument; taking a walk are really great ways to distance your self from the person that is getting on your nerve.

Our society drums it into our sons’ heads that they should never hit a woman. In order for this message to be effective, then we need to let our sons know that society won’t let them be punching bags, that just have to stand there and take it, when their partners abuse them — that a violent woman will be punished the same as a violent man.

obviously, she(she being Amber), has some anger issues, and there is nothing to discuss about, she physically abused Gary on live television, and now she cant deny anything because they can use that one clip as evidence against her, she just screwed herself into a huge hole and she cant get out for the next two to three years (if prosicuted to the full extent of the law.)

I am so glad that someone is doing something to her, she is one of the people in this world that doesn’t need children and MTV never should have aired her hitting him, I guess they will do anything to get more people watching

My ” Heart ” goe’s out to Gary. What a man he is for not hitting her back. He loved her more then words can explain. She loved him, “She thought she did ” until she lost the weight, then she thought she was above him. I saw that one coming. Gary put the baby to bed, Gary, feed the baby, Gary dress the baby, Gary go get her up, Gary change her, Gary make a bottle, Gary hurry up, Gary you need to ash for my hand better then that, no I won’t marry you, you didn’t ask me right, Gary make dinner, so need I go any farther. She used him big time, never loved him only when she was heavy, then when the weight came off, she turned on him. Shame on her. She deserve’s 3-years & a fine & never get’s the baby back. Have a great evening. Bless ya all.

I agree with you that Gary was great for nothitting her back! SHe is lazy…her house is just nasty and then she had her new boyfriend cleaning it for her while she sat there. She doesnt deserve to have Leah at this time!

Lets look at this from a scientific point of view: recent mom, probably has mild post partum depression – acts out violently and in not in control. See a doctor! Get help! do it for the kid if you can’t do it for yourself Amber.

Oh please. The girl is violent BULLY, and she’s not a “recent” mom. Her kid is like almost 2 years old. She needs to be put in jail, and that baby given to someone who’s not going to try to solve her problems with a punch.

Nonsense. She’s an abusive partner. If she were a man, there would be no excuses given for the assault. Women can and do abuse people as well and should be treated equally under the law. Lock her a$$ up.

i am a woman and a mother as well and i dont think it is adequate for anybody to act like that she needs help… the mother of my neice was suffering from postpartum depression and she seeked help there’s no reason for anyone to act like that!!!

Typical sexism. Men beat their wives or girlfriends and they’re seen as monsters that need to be locked up, but if women do the same to their bf or husband they’re “ill” and need help and it was really the man’s fault for not giving her enough attention or some other misandry laden excuse.

I think some of the blame needs to be on the show. They WANT drama like this for ratings and therefore they try to encourage behavior like shown here. Really sad.

@Cali:
While I do somewhat agree that reality shows thrive on the drama, you cannot blame the show on Amber’s behavior. Nobody told her to beat the crap out of Gary, while she child is right there to witness it. The blame lies fully on Amber, and she should be punished to the fullest extend of the law, for being a bully and a abuser. I could bet my life on the fact that even before they met, and perhaps even before Leah was born, Amber was beating Gary up left, right, and sideways. I give Gary props for not turning around and throwing Amber down the flight of stairs.

I think that all of the blame should be put on Amber and in my opinion Gary should have knocked the hell out of her. It isn’t right for either partner to put their hands on one another so if she is “Man” enough to put her hands on him then she is “Man” enough to get knocked out. I don’t think that she will do any time, the law usually sides with the woman which is crazy (I am a mom with 2 kids and I know how it feels for the depression, but never have I put my hands on my partner)

Actually, that’s not really true. I work on the show, and unlike a lot of reality shows, this one doesn’t manipulate its characters to up the drama. Surprisingly, this drama happens all on its own, with no encouragement. If we were encouraging this, I would not be working on the show.

V.P. Biden recently called violence against women, “the very worst abuse.” The very worst abuse is valuing one life less than another for having been born the wrong sex. Under Biden’s Violence Against Women Act the wrong sex is men. Shelter and services are virtually non-existent for male victims of domestic violence so those options out of a bad relationship, that are routinely available to women, are very often not available to men. Men wind up gender profiled and often falsely accused by the taxpayer funded, d.v. industry, because of gender feminist ideology controlling the d.v. industry. Men are often battered by domestic violence, and then battered again by the taxpayer funded, domestic violence industry as shown in “Los Misndry” at Youtube.

What was it that the CDC found in their recent study? The best way for women to not become victims of domestic violence is to keep their damn hands to themselves–hitting first is what cause most injuries.
They found women are responsible for initiating 50% of reciprocal DV and at fault for initiating 70% of unidirectional DV. What that means is women hit first as often as men, but when only one person is doing the hitting women are doing it 7 out of 10 times. The only reason women comprise 2/3rd of the injuries sustained by DV is because men are on average about 20% larger and have more upper body strength. In other words for the women reading this, don’t make checks your ass can’t cash, meaning if you hit like a man you’ll get hit back.
One last thing for the white knights leaping to womens’ defense and NAWALT crowd: despite the physical disadvantages women have against men, men still make up 1/3 of the injured when it comes to DV.

Wow! You really twist things Ray.
VP Biden was talking about the world wide voilence agaisnt women – like rape and torture in the Congo.
Overall there are more shelters/beds for men than women and so few for families.
You are obviously promoting an agenda.

Little children are least able to contend with domestic violence in their families. According to the U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services and DOJ statistics, more kids are killed by neglect and abuse in a year (1,760 in 2007), than all the female intimate partner homicides in a year. Mothers are the single largest group of kid killers, according to HHS and they have a rate twice that of fathers. Nowhere near the money is spent to protect kids from kid killing mothers as is spent by the domestic violence industry to protect women. A lot of innocent men are witch-hunted by the corrupt, gender feminist influenced, taxpayer funded, domestic violence industry. Involving the corrupt d.v. industry in an attempt to prevent abusive and neglectful deaths of children is a big mistake. No place better characterizes the corruption of the taxpayer funded, domestic violence industry than “Los Misandry” at Youtube.
