Jen finally catches a break in the comparison sweepstakes. Angelina’s expensive latest film, ‘The Tourist’ was a bombolino at the box office taking in $17 million versus Jen’s inexpensively produced ‘The Bounty Hunter’ which at $21 mil looks like a big hit in comparison!
The much anticipated combo of Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp in The Tourist did not in fact make for the big box office bucks many had predicted. According to our sister site Deadline, Angie and Johnny could only eek out $17 million at the weekend office, or, to put in another way, $3.5 million less than Jen made when The Bounty Hunter opened last March!
Now while $3.5 million may not seem like such a big difference you have to take into account that Jen’s filmed opened in March, one of the slower months for box office, while Angie’s film opened during the very popular, and often lucrative, holiday season.
There’s more too. The budget for The Tourist was a pricey $100 million, not including marketing campaigns and ads, as opposed to The Bounty Hunter which was acomparatively frugal $40 million. With a total international take of just over $136 million, Jen was actually a great investment for the studio.
Angie may have got her man, but Jen could still steal Angie’s box office crown! Which actress do you like better on the big screen?

The tourist made more money if you count overseas. Check it out, plus it won a nomination. Jen is just lucky she has the same old idiots that will go to her movies to try to prove “some” point.

Hey I like both actresses but if my choices were between the two and I could only pick 1 I’d probably choose Jen in a comedy over Angie in a thriller or action adventure. Why? Well Jen just seems more real and down to earth. Angle is too perfect and that can be distracting. Don’t ask me how exactly – except it is like a moth to a flame kind of distracting. I’d rather enjoy the movie than be dazzled by one character. Angle, put on a few pounds please! You look dangerously fragile.

Well lets get the records streight. In the Domestic Market since 2002 Angelina Jolie has made Domestic budget on 6 out of 15 movies. Jennifer Aniston has made Domestic budget on 12 out of 13. So no matter how you compare the two Jennifer is definetly more bankable!!!!!!

Angelina’s movie Salt made nearly 300 million dollars! It was based on her NAME ALONE. The film was not based on a book, a video game and did not feature a popular male lead. She’s one of the only females who can do this in the action category. Plus, she just earned a Golden Globe nomination! No way anyone competes with her except Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock or Reese Witherspoon. Angelina is in a league of her own.

Exactly, any movie Jen has been in features a major male movie star. That is why she signs up for these, she doesn’t want to face the humiliation she would face if she actually headlined a movie and it flopped. She goes for the sure sellers unlike Angie that even said when she was producing her movie that it would most likely not sell, but she wanted to tell her story.

You left out one huge detail. The actor in the Bounty Hunter was Gerard Butler. He is why the Bounty Hunter sold tickets. Critics are saying that Johnny Depp did not do his best work in the Tourist and appeared bloated and off his game. Angelina’s performance was stellar as always.

I’ll bet there will be a Res Evil 5 but there won’t be any Salt 2. She really was only profitable in Action films and now that is not even the case. That is why Jolie is trying now to re-create herself as a director.

Update – Milla Jovavich and Resident Evil officially just pulled ahead of Jolie and Salt. From bomojo, Res Evil ww $294.1M with $60M prod budget. Salt $293.5M with $110M prod budget. I guess Milla is the biggest international star. Also she’s the biggest international female action star. And I think, the biggest Female Action Franchise there is since this was the 4th Res Evil. Unlike Jolie’s Lara Croft which quit after 2 since the second one didn’t make a profit. Why not write about this Bonnie!

I saw The Tourist today what a bad movie. Visually it was amazing but the story was blah and boring… AJ is overpaid for most movies she makes and she will never be able to do comedy like Jennifer can.

cost $40M. Just because you say it doesn’t make it true. Box Office mojo along with many other sites said it cost
$19M with is about on target for an indie comedy. No one said she got paid $8M, in fact it’s likely she took less since she was a producer. Also they got the same tax breaks that other movies shot in NY got such as Salt which would have been $130M but was brought down to $110M with tax breaks. How do you think other film with big name talent got made for so little such as Brooklyn’s Finest for $17M, A Mighty Heart for $16M (even though it had 6 different locations), The American $20M, For Colored Girls $21M and countless others.
In addition, you say it was beaten by bow wow but it turns out bow wow was front loaded because it made $3M less
overall domestically than The Switch. Not only that but The Switch has made over $47M worldwide while Bow Wow and
Lottery Ticket have only made $24M. So stop with the BS.
Maybe you should be worrying why Milla Jovavich in Resident
Evil, as the sole female lead, was able to bring in $290M with a production budget of only $60M while Jolie did
just $3M more, $293M, with a production budget of $110M. Gee, I guess Jolie’s fans can’t even use that line that
she’s the only female lead that can carry an action movie. Salt while it has done well just isn’t the blockbuster everyone is claiming and The Tourist has a long steep road ahead to try and make up that $100M budget it has.

Since when is spending 40 million dollars on a movie being frugal? Juno only cost 7.5 million dollars and made twice as much as the The Bounty Hunter..sure it didnt make as much on the opening weekend, but the end results killed Jennifer’s numbers…

Jennifer, not sure what your point is about $40M and frugality or even bringing up the movie Juno. What I did in the first half of my post is to refute the false info that Hasbeen posted. Everything I stated is fact based on bomojo info so I don’t understand what your point is and therefore can’t really address it.
Your second point about googling The Switch and laughing your a** off, is a little childish but I’ll address it. I just googled The Switch and I get the imdb page, then the trailer, then the movie web site, then the wiki etc. No where on the first page do I see anything about it being a bomb. If I did see that I’d suspect I was seeing one of the articles that unfairly portrayed The Switch as a bomb after opening night. In any case my point is that you providing false info here.
Your 3rd point compares apples to oranges, TBH an action comedy to Salt an action thriller. And Switch, an indie comedy to Tourist and non-indie drama. The reason I compared Salt to Res Evil in my original post was because they are both Action Thrillers and both have one lead who is female so that is comparing apples to apples.
You claim Angie comes out on top in your comparison of JA and AJ grosses. This is true if you just look at gross. The article posted above talks about investment, which means profit or return on investment. A simple way to look at return shows that in your comparison of domestic grosses TBH returned 1.7x its prod cost while Salt returned 1.1x its prod cost. Meanwhile The Switch returned 1.5x its prod cost and Tourist so far has returned 0.2x its prod cost. So using your numbers, which are domestic gross from bomojo we can see that Jen is the better investment.
Keep laughing with your ha ha ha’s. Your going to need it when the media wakes up and stops kissing Jolie’s butt.
