The popular reality show is looking at younger contestants this year — and we can’t say we blame them!
American Idol is reworking things this season — and not just the judges! The age limit has been changed to include contestants as young as 15-years-old — and it seems to make a whole lot of sense! The biggest acts in music these days, be it Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift or Miley Cyrus, all got their start very, very young! Idol would be smart to find another member of this incredibly talented, and highly profitable, group!
While past Idol winners have shown amazing talent, few have seen staying power to find themselves at the top of the industry, save Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson (who it must be noted did not in fact win her season, or even make it to the finals). Adam Lambert seems like he may be on his way to this level, but it seems a little to early to say!
So the best thing Idol could do it appears is find an incredible young talent who will relate with the show’s audience as well as the millions of younger fans who seem to now be driving the record industry!
Now, we know the ultimate decision comes down to fans and voters, but what do you think HollywoodLifers? Should Idol try and promote younger talent this year?

Absolutely NOT! Fifteeen year olds have enough pressure on them without the added pressure this a competition like this brings. Unfortunately many of these young stars end up having numerous problems caused by their newly found fame.

Garrrggghhhh! Why would we want more Justins/Myleys/Taylors???? No thanks. If Idol wants to focus more on babies who can be easily exploited, ripped off, wrung out and then dumped when they get old and lose their appeal at around 17 yrs, they should just call it Baby Idol and be done with it. LMFAO Meanwhile, I’ll continue looking out for real talent – whatever their age. Idol really should give it up and stop flogging a dead horse. It’s over already. No-one cares anymore.

Taylor, Justin, and Myley are exact what we don’t need. All three are average at best singers and boring – no originality.
