Even though they were married for 18 years, John won’t let Elaine use ‘Mellencamp’ after the divorce!
Unkindest cut of all indeed: Elaine Irwin-Mellencamp, 41, who has two sons with the musician — Hud, 16 and Speck, 15 — will be asked to return to her maiden name after the divorce is completed. RadarOnline obtained the petition for dissolution of marriage filed by John Mellencamp in Indiana and article six clearly states, “wife should be restored her maiden name of ‘Irwin’.”
Looks like the 59-year-old doesn’t think his third wife deserves to keep her hyphenated last name.
It’s the latest insult added to injury for Irwin, who has seen Meg Ryan getting pretty cozy in NYC and in Martha’s Vineyard with John. The actress has been seeing Mellencamp for a few weeks now since his September separation according to People and things continue to simmer for Meg and Mellencamp.

john is notorious for cheating on his wives and then divorce and marry the one he is cheating with. get rid of guilt i would say. same thing happened to elaine. john cheated with meghag and he felt guilt and desolved the marriage so that in his own sick love trench mind, he wouldnt be condsidered an adulterator. so i rest my case. john needs to dump the meghag and quit playing mellencock and go back to elaine and the boys where he belongs.

If he wants her to drop his name, my guess is she did something to really pi** him off. Did he catch her cheating? Women are so quick to simply assume it’s the husband who cheats….

Wow, what a neat guy. So far the only one smearing the Mellencamp name is John. It’s just a petition, and an Indiana judge will decide if she can keep the same name as her children. Does she even want it anymore? Elaine is quite accomplished and can stand on her own name. Sounds like Meg found herself a real gem.

Agree it should be the wife’s decision alone whether she wants to keep the Mellencamp surname. I don’t think he has a legal choice although he can request all he wants.

Please stop with the plastic surgery Meg. As it is, your next role may be playing the Joker in a Bat Man flick. You should have just aged gracefully. It certainly would have been better then the alternative…
