The stars love to lead stadiums with this powerful song, but some celebs prove there should be auditions for the gig!
Christina Aguilera may have forgotten the words to “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Super Bowl XLV, but she isn’t the first celebrity to mess up this sports stadium tradition. Check out four other stars who have blown it big in front of fans who did not appreciate the caterwauling.
- Roseanne Barr — The gold standard for celebs trashing the National Anthem. Roseanne butchered this song at this 1990 San Diego Padres game, which set the crowd into a frenzy.
- Hillary Clinton — This one is a little mean since she didn’t know her mic was on at her event, but Hilary messed up the words and sang so out of key that we have to poke some fun at her.
- Michael Bolton — As a professional singer, Michael should know how this old chestnut needs to be sung. But not only did he deliver a rough-sounding version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Fenway Park in 2003, but he also took a page out of the Sarah Palin playbook and wrote the lyrics on his hand.
- R. Kelly — R. Kelly tried to put a little too much soul into this clap-happy rendition, but the performance quickly became a fascinating reflection of the singer’s massive ego.
Plus, check out the lady we know you all came here for — Christina!

It’s absolutely ridiculous that this site thinks Christina sang just as bad as Rosanne, R.Kelly, etc. If she hadn’t messed up a few words nobody would say her singing was awful. The funny thing is she covered. She didn’t stumble over words or take a long pause like other singers have done. If you weren’t paying close attention to the words you wouldn’t even notice a mistake.
