The people involved with the star-studded New Year’s Eve film have been notoriously tight-lipped about the movie but we got our hands on the script!
If you loved Garry Marshall‘s Valentine’s Day then just wait until you see his New Year’s Eve film! We’ve seen pictures on set but now HollywoodLife.com has read the script and we can give you a few highlights from the storylines for this highly anticipated flick. Spoiler alert!
We’ve already seen Michelle Pfeiffer and Zac Efron scooting around NYC together but Zac stayed mum when asked about their specific plotline. We can reveal that although Zac and Michelle do kiss (when the clock strikes midnight of course), it’s not a cougar relationship like you may think.
Michelle plays Ingrid, a “nondescript” secretary in her 50s who quits her job and tries to fulfill her New Year’s resolutions before midnight. She hires bike messenger Paul (Zac) to help her for the day. He ends up giving her a sweet, platonic kiss to help her complete her list of things to do before the year is over.
The cast is full of all-stars and their are the most unlikely of pairings! We don’t want to give away too many of the surprise twists in the movie that inevitably occur, just like Valentine’s Day (remember Bradley Cooper & Eric Dane‘s awesome kiss at the end?) but we’ll give you just enough to whet your appetite for the spinoff.
Highlights:
- Katherine Heigl plays Laura Carrington, a chef in charge of catering the big NYE bash. She has a romantic history with Jon Bon Jovi‘s rockstar character Jensen and when they meet up for the first time in years she slaps him in the face.
- Hilary Swank‘s Claire Morgan character is in charge of making sure the ball drops at midnight but meanwhile she has something else more important on her mind…
- A pregnant Tess (Jessica Biel) and husband Griffin (Seth Meyers) are in serious competition for having the first baby born in the new year so they can win reward money.
- Josh Duhamel‘s character Sam opens and closes the movie and has a storyline involving finding a lost love he met the year before
- Abigail Breslin plays the precocious Hailey, a girl trying to gain independence from her divorced mother Kate played by Sarah Jessica Parker.
- Ashton Kutcher and Lea Michele‘s characters Randy and Elise get stuck in an elevator together, and we are treated to a song that combines Bon Jovi and Lea Michele’s voices!
What do you think now that you’ve heard more about the movie? Any other actors or actresses connected to the film that you want to know about? Let us know in your comments!

There is something called the “Kiss of Death” list — a list of actors and actresses who, if they are in a film, the film will bomb. It does not necessarily mean that they are bad actors, or that they themselves caused the film to fail, and generally early in their careers there was one exception to the rule, but, thereafter, it’s KOD time if they’re in the film. Witness “Nine” — Kate Hudson was in the film, so it was sure to bomb, despite the rest of the cast. And “It’s De-Lovely,” Ashley Judd was in it, so KOD. Jennifer Aniston, Matthew McConaughy, among others, and certainly Katherine Heigl .. so, I think NYE is doomed. It’s gonna be the Kate Hudson effect all over again.
