Emmy Rossum at the opera, Vanessa Hudgens in LA, Selena Gomez at a Disney event and Eva Rachel at the premiere of Mildred Pierce all had one thing in common — smashing red lips for the red carpet! Red lips are a big statement and we all know how hard it is to pull it off. Dior celebrity makeup artist Ricky Wilson gives us his tips on how you can own this look!

Ricky believes there is a shade of red lipstick for everyone — you just have to find it! But be brave in your choices! As Ricky says, “Go red or go home!” It’s all-or-nothing with this Hollywood superstar look. He tells us that red lips are a stand-alone piece.  Ricky barely applies any blush or eyeshadow — so the real focus is on the lips.

Ricky’s tip: Use a neutral lip liner rather than red. “When the red lipstick wears down you’ll be left with a red outline that isn’t really flattering!” Use a bit of concealer around the lip, or paint the lipstick directly on the lips with a lip liner brush.

Ricky also tells us about a big no-no when it comes to sealing red lips. We’ve heard that putting powder over the lips help make red lipstick sit better — WRONG!

“It’s almost like sitting a towel next to a puddle of water — it’s going to actually cause bleeding and not correct the problem!” His advice: use a waxy lip balm like ChapStick!
