Meredith Vieira Officially Leaving ‘Today’ — Ann Curry Named As Her Replacement!

Meredith is leaving the popular morning show it was announced live on ‘Today’ after five years — and Ann is set to move from the news desk to take over her spot!

After weeks of speculation and rumors it was officially announced on May 9 that Meredith Vieira would be leaving Today and that Ann Curry would be taking her spot. Ann’s spot meanwhile would be filled by Natalie Morales in a game of morning show musical chairs.

Matt Lauer made the announcement as the group shared hugs and tears with one another.

Meredith joined Today in 2006 from The View, replacing longtime host Katie Couric, who moved on to the CBS Evening News. Oddly, Katie will also be leaving her post this year.

Ann Curry SHOULD have replaced Katie Curic when she left. I have been watching the Today show for decades and was so sad when Katie left and they didn’t replace her with Ann then. If it weren’t for Mat and Ann, I would have changed the channel. I never warmed up to Meridith, she just doesn’t have the same something that everyone else has had on the Today show. I’m glad she is leaving and that Ann has finally gotten the job she deserved in the first place! BEST of luck Ann!

I know why Ann Curry was chosen to replace Meredith (tenure), but I really don’t care for her interview style. Sad that I will now have a find another morning show. I’ve been watching Today my entire life. End of an era for me.
