Kate IS the People’s Princess! Fresh off her romantic Seychelles honeymoon, she sprung into first official duties greeting the Obamas in an affordable off-the-rack dress!
It’s a move Michelle Obama would love . When Kate, now titled, the Duchess of Cambridge, and the Prince shook hands with the Barack and Michelle Obama in Buckingham Palace on May 24, she did it in a nude-color bandage dress by UK based chain store, Reiss, which also has locations in the U.S. Also present were the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Camilla.
The neutral dress was sold out online within an hour, and while it’s still available in stores, a PR rep for Reiss says that “stores are being flooded with calls for the dress.”
Now Michelle, who also believes in keeping her stylish toes on relatable ground, took heat when she FIRST met the Queen wearing a $300 J Crew cardigan. Famed American designer Oscar de la Renta sniffed to WWD that “you don’t go to Buckingham Palace in a sweater.! Ha! Now Kate, has the affordable Michelle’s back!
Meanwhile, Michelle arrived at Buckingham Palace in a pretty floral Barbara Tfank resort 2011 dress that retails for 2,520.
What did you think of Kate and Michelle’s looks?
You can get Michelle’s look for yourself at Barneys stores!

So, riddle me this: If Michelle Obama is 5’11 tall, and Kate is 5’10, and they’re both wearing heels…then why is Michelle Obama 4 inches taller than Kate?

I love, love, love that the queen always has her purse with her no matter what, and is always posing for photos with it. guess she doesn’t trust staffers to keep her belongings when she’s out and about.

You know what, it took a while, but I have come to love the way Mrs. Obama dresses. That slightly dowdy, quirky space her wardrobe has settled into draws a bit from pop culture, a bit from old money (a $3000 coat goes with a $75 dollar dress because you’re not trying to impress anyone) and a whole lot from Queen Elizabeth herself. Now those are women “that rule the world,” Beyonce!

I’m sure the latest fashion trends are low on the priority list for the First Lady, but PLEEEEZE someone help this lady with some flattering outfits.
For a day meeting at the palace, one should wear pumps with hosiery. It’s old school when meeting the queen. Sling backs without hosiery and little girl jackets just looks messy.
Kate’s dress looks like she bought it about 9lbs ago. She needs to gain some.

I admire Michelle Obama for many things, but fashion sense is not one of them. What’s with the too short-waisted dresses, this one paired with a pink bolero that both hits the black belt at the wrong spot and doesn’t go with the bright blue dress? Any why silver shoes, can’t she afford black ones? She looked like someone going to a garden party, not the royal palace.

I admire Mrs. Obama. She is a brilliant, well spoken and charming First Lady. However, I also agree she needs to take some advice from The Duchess of Cambridge’s fashion advisors. The royal blue suit I saw Mrs. Obama wearing when she arrived in England? (I’m not certain) would have been a better fashion choice for an official State Meeting with the Queen at Buckingham Palace. I am all for daring and sophistication in fashion but……a hot pink bolero?….for someone over the age of 25 to meet the Queen? I don’t think so. And of course…..Mrs. Obama’s full skirt, which is charming…..but not practical or “safe” wind wise for official visits. Again….Mrs. Obama is our
First Lady, an official who will be required to dress “officially” or conservatively. Mrs. Obama has a gorgeous figure. She just needs some professional advice on how to “fine tune” her taste in fashion. I hope Mrs. Obama looks back on other First Ladies who have been….pretty poor on fashion sense….namely Mamie and Eleanor. I know my mother used to laugh at Mamie’s full, fluffy skirts and comment how Mamie was trying to dress like a “college girl.” Also Eleanor Roosevelt, especially when she greeted the King and Queen of England in 1939, looked absolutely ridiculous in her flowered outfit and parasol. Yes….I do keep track of fashion. I love it and feel it is quite an important component of PR. Jackie Kennedy, to me, has been the “gem” dresser of all First Ladies. Nancy Reagan was an excellent dresser too…..However, Mrs. Reagen’s outfit to meet the Queen, at Buckingham Palace, was….oh well….poor, plain… and ugh….that hat! Fashion and fashionable dressing is an art and requirers expert advice.
