Maybe it’s the classy, sophisticated look of the hairstyle, or maybe it’s just the scorching summer heat, but buns are taking over Hollywood heads!
Kim Kardashian, Jessica Alba and Miranda Kerr wore the best buns of the week. Celebrity hairstylist Alma G, of The Alma Salon in NYC, shows YOU how to get the look!
“The ‘bun’ can be used for many different looks. From a soft casual look or a sophisticated chignon,” says Alma, “It is a versatile hairstyle that needs minimum tools such as hairpins, an elastic, paddle brush , hairspray, mousse or gel and if needed an anti-frizz product. It is the perfect style for a bad hair day and can be quick and easy to do to keep cool or to look sophisticated.”
Here’s how Alma makes the perfect celebrity bun:
- Start with smooth clean hair. Use a gel or mousse that contains anti frizz to avoid those frizzies.
- Before you begin to use a paddle brush, spray your brush with hairspray to help gather the hair. Brush the hair back into a low ponytail using a ponytail holder. For a sophisticated look, the ponytail should be low. For a more casual look, the ponytail should be a little higher. Position your bun to the look you are trying to achieve.
- Twist the hair clockwise around the ponytail holder, when it is winded around the ponytail holder, insert your bobby pins. Make sure that your bun is secure and that you place your pins so they are not visible.
- Once your pins are secure, to help hold your bun, use a medium hold hair spray to help hold your hair style.
- Gently use your paddle bush to gather any loose ends in the front of your hair. Move your head from side to side to make sure your bun is secure.
