Nick and Vanessa will have cameras capture their road to the altar and the actual ceremony — but insiders say Nick doesn’t look at this as ‘Newlyweds’ round two.
Reality TV ultimately led to the end of Nick Lachey‘s marriage to Jessica Simpson but he’s not letting that stop him! HollywoodLife.com has just learned that TLC will air a one-time special of Nick’s upcoming nuptials to his girlfriend of five years Vanessa Minnillo called Nick & Vanessa’s Dream Wedding.
“Nick feels like his marriage to Jessica was so long ago,” our source says. “He’s not letting that stop him from taping this. They’ve already started filming their wedding festivities and it’s not a reality show. It’s just a special.”
Nick and Vanessa have released a statement about their decision to air the wedding:
“We’re lucky to have such passionate and loving fans, and we thought partnering with TLC on this special would be the best way to share the exciting journey we’re on with all the people that support us and our relationship.”
Nick and Vanessa have not yet set a date for their wedding and TLC will not comment on when the special will air. We just know it will be within weeks of the ceremony.
Ironically, Jessica is engaged to her beau Eric Johnson — we wonder if this is a slap in the face to Jessica. Jessica and Nick famously filmed their day-to-day lives for MTV from 2003 – 2005 for their incredibly popular reality show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.

Televised celebrity weddings will become the new thing to do since the Royal Wedding happened. It’s GREAT publicity, great for ratings, great for TV stations who have the right to air them, and great for commercial product placement where millions of people are going to see your ads…look at the Superbowl. Because so many people watch the Superbowl, advertising agencies pay MILLIONS to have their products plugged where loads of people will see them. It’s exactly the same for celebrity weddings. It’s going to be a pissing match between celebs as well, to see who can have the most viewers, the most expensive cake, etc. Celebrities love to show their wealth and status to one another, it’s an ongoing rivalry among them. In the past, keeping your wedding as private as possible was the thing to do, but that has changed. Here is another form of competition springing up, one that is saturated in money and prestige.
Not only will it boost celebrity egos everywhere, but it’ll be goddamned ratings and commercial gold. (Not to mention the bakeries, bridal shops etc. who will do super business with all that publicity.)
