‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2′ has already made $43.5 million in the box office, smashing midnight screening records! ‘Eclipse’ made $30 million in midnight showings! Twi-hards are you upset?
Wow — Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 has hit theaters and it is already breaking records. It’s no surprise to any Harry Potter fan that the final installment is generating as much buzz as it has this week, yet now movie ticket sales have confirmed it. More than 6,000 midnight showings sold out prior to Thursday night’s big release and now, theaters even added 3:00 a.m. showings, because fans needed to see the movie as soon as possible! And we don’t blame them!
NYpost.com reports that this was the largest number of pre-sold tickets ever! Ticket service Fandango confirms this unbelievable sales streak, and even put it in simpler terms: 93% of all tickets on Thursday are tickets to see Harry Potter at midnight. Incredible!
The last movie that generated as much buzz and midnight-showing mania was the latest Twilight movie, Eclipse. So far, Harry Potter is several million over Twilight’s record for midnight showings sales. In terms of previous midnight showing ticket sales, Eclipse made $30 million, New Moon made $26.3 million and Twilight opened with a little over $7 million. Still something to be proud of for sure.
To be fair, Twilight still has two more movies to go in the franchise, and this is the end of the ‘Potter’ era, which has spanned ten years and appeals to a wider fan-base, but it has turned into quite a showdown!
We will just have to wait and see what happens when The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 is released this fall.
What do you think HollywoodLifers? Which movie do YOU think deserves the box-office title?

Come on, HP is so much better! The veteran actors, awesome special effects, complicated storylines and a genius author says it all! Besides, people of all ages can watch it unlike Twilight which is mostly targeted to teens and adults.

I like both, and this is moronic. First of all, Harry Potter is 8 movies so is obviously going to outsell Twilight’s 5. Secondly, the last 2 Twilight movies aren’t out yet so let’s wait and see before we start crowing that HP made more money. And at the end of the day it won’t matter. HP fans will like HP and Twilight fans will like Twilight. Neither is better.

One big reason why Twilight makes so much money is because fangirls bring their boyfriends, moms and other people who couldn’t care less.

For me as a Harry Potter fan that doesn’t mean anything. I don’t care about breaking anybody’s records, records are being broken all the time. Nothing new, especially since DH2 came out in 3D also, where ticket prices are naturally higher. So you would have to compare the number of tickets sold. I’m just sad the journey is over, and articles like this don’t make it better. :*(

The poll question was obviously asked by a twilight fan… and i think that’s amazing. i’m a fan of twilight, but Harry Potter will always be number 1. did you know that the least successful Harry Potter movie, earned more than most successful Twilight movie?

Come on… twilight sucks.
” Harry Potter is about confronting fears, finding inner strength, and doing what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight is about how important it is to have a boyfriend.”

that’s not going to happen honey.maybe you can brag about the success of twilight domestically but internationally the movie is nothing comparing with franchises such as harry potter, pirates and lord of the rings.

Sure, HP and Twilight may make similar numbers domestically, but internationally, HP makes a mockery out of Twilight. Deathly Hallows Part 2 had a foreign opening of $312 million, with a worldwide opening of $481 million. Two records set there already. The highest worldwide opening a Twilight movie has made was with $274 million (New Moon). Yeah, that’s a whole lot of money, but it pales in comparison to the openings of HP 6 and HP 7.2.

Why does it even matter, let’s just celebrate the joy that Harry Potter has brought us! That sounds so corny but seriously, Harry Potter took writing and movie making to a while ‘nother level. It’s been an awesome decade with the Harry Potter films and this is defiantly a bittersweet night.:)

you have to worry about how smart you are because you are fool if you think that breaking dawn can give the title to twilight again

Who’s the fool spamming the page with crap about HP beating Twilight? You think you’re a better person if your movie beats another movie? No, just a sad little fangirl.

haha true….hp fan till the end!! watched it yesterday as it was released earlier here and there’s NOTHING twilight can do to be a better movie…i mean, i’m a fan of both but mostly hp cause it’s been my whole childhood and apart from the message they’re sending hp is always the best..ron and hermione 4 ever!! the kiss in the chamber of secrets was awesome!!!!even if they show us the whole sex scene in Breaking Dawn part1- nothing can be compared to this finale of Hp!!!!!
