A casting insider tells HollywoodLife.com R-Patz didn’t get the leading role in Steven Soderbergh’s film remake of ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’ Are YOU bummed?
We thought Robert Pattinson could have been an amazing fit in the leading role of Napoleon Solo in the film remake of the ’60s spy drama The Man From U.N.C.L.E., but apparently the director, Steven Soderbergh didn’t feel the same!
“It’s not going to happen for Rob,” a source at Warner Brothers told HollywoodLife.com exclusively about the rumor which began late last month. “Steven is interested in working with someone he has worked with before, or someone who is not famous yet, an unknown.”
The insider added, “He just doesn’t want the film to be over shadowed.”
Currently, the film is set for a February 2012 start, but the casting hasn’t come together yet. Originally, George Clooney was committed to starring in the remake, but dropped out in late August.
Are YOU bummed Rob didn’t get this part, or do you think there’s something better out there for him? In what kind of role do you see Rob next? Sound off below!

LMAO!! I told you Robbert Pattison is still in LA because he’s begging for work and no one wants to hire him. First losing a small indie movie and now a major studio movie. Maybe he will be in the next p0rn movie. Hahahaha. Your gay vampire boy sucks!!

Wrong again. Go spread your hate elsewhere. Rob said a year ago he was taking a well earned break. He also said that he didnt want to make as many movies per year as he has been in the past. He wants down time. He has more money than he could possible ever spend. I believe at last estimate he was worth around 53 million. So next time you bash him think about your own life and income first. Rob has turned down several offers for both film and music and has also commited to a couple others for next year and the year after. They will be announced over the coming months. Rob only does movies that speak to him, not ones for money like most actors. I doubt that this movie was even on this radar. He will go on to have a wonderful career if that is w hat he chooses to do. I personally think he will slow everything way down after he promotes the three movies that he has being released next year, so that he can enjoy his life and not work 24/7. He has also refused numerous photoshoot opportunities since that horrible misquoting and poor reporting in the last Harpers Bazaar issue. He is laying low on purpose. remember he is a British national not a US citizen and is on a work visa so he has to be working to remain in US. As I said you will hear over the coming months.

Some ideas:
David McCallum as Alexander Waverly
Robert Vaughn as Carlo Amalfi (in the novels Carlo Amalfi was second-in-command of worldwide operations behind Waverly)
Whoever is cast for the roles of Solo and Kuryakin are going to have to be able to handle it as dramedy since there was a certain tongue-in-cheek humor to the show when it was in its prime.

I’m disappointed for Rob if it’s really true that Rob WANTED this part and was being considered for it, but even more disturbing is the comment that Soderburgh “doesn’t want the film being overshadowed” by the obsession with Rob and Robsten. Has it come to the point where Rob’s fans are limiting the types of work he can get??? How sad. Maybe people just need to step back and enjoy him from afar lest they negatively impact his career choices, which means you would get to see less of him.

The old Man from U.N.C.L.E. was riding the British wave with James Bond and the Beatles, so think Pattinson would have been a great choice as he harkens back to that kind of vibe, even though the original lead character was American. So Pattinson has that all going on. Who else is out there, Channing Tatum? Boring. No thanks.

Too bad as I think he would have been great in this project. All the other actors out right now are really boring and stale. Plus I think it would be interesting to have had him do this part with his real english accent. Who else can do this, I can’t think of one actor right now as interesting. It’s always the same old same old.

Rob photographs well, but he certainly does not have the acting talent that some of the others being mentioned have so not in the least bummed. He is also to young for the roll of Solo. Of course I would go with Alexander Skarsgard. His is an exceptionally gifted actor, he has a huge following from TB fans, but really not that well known otherwise, and he is just the right age range for the roll.

Rob lost out on the role, really!! or was he never even in the running. Your ‘source’ clearly says they wanted an unknown, so Rob never stood a chance. You just threw his name in with a bunch of other famous actors to get hits, That’s whats sad.

OMG, his name was on a wishlist with like 2 dozen other actors! Are we going to get an article for every movie that gets cast, claiming that Rob “lost” the role? It’s gotten ridiculous. Stop tossing his name out there for things he has no connection to, just to get hits for your crappy site.

Rob probably didn’t want to make the film anyway. It will be a phsical film and he’s into making statements with his film. He doesn’t care if they are #1 at the box office. They have to mean something to him. He leaves the fighting to Taylor Lautner.

Rob was never even considered for this role. Clooney is like 50 years old and even if they go with someone younger, it will be someone who is 35, not 25. This whole thing was fake from the start, he was never going to be in this movie.

Lost out? Who ever said he was interested? Robs name has been floated out over the last month or so for about 15 different movies or want to be movies. Obviously he must be working on something as he is not a US citizen and must be on a work visa, but I truly think that Rob is laying low for awhile. I think that his and Kristen’s rabid fan base has become too much. I dont think that you will see him accept a major role for awhile. I think he is doing what Ryan Gosling did after the notebook and Leo did after Titanic. I think he just needs a break, not from the acting but from the insanity. He will choose a role when he is ready and when it is right for him, the movie, and the director. Remember, he has BD1 coming out in Nov 2011 and BD2,BA, and Cos coming out in 2012. So hopefully he will get a break from the insanity, promote the films he has already made, and find a film that interests him, record music, or write – whatever makes him happy. This scrutiny and this insanity that surrounds him only seems to make him miserable.

I think you make a lot of sense, Jill. I didn’t’ know Ryan Gosling went through all the hoopla, but Leo Dicaprico for sure. It’s insane, just reading through the HL crap (procrastinating mainly) but what an insight into people. Some are very strange out there. I think if I were Rob I’d do whatever I want. He’s earned that right.

Don’t compare Rob with Leo and Ryan. Not the same thing. Leo and Ryan were critically acclaimed actors before taking a break . Rob still hasn’t convinced critics he’s more than Edward Cullen .Rob is the next Mark Hamill.Don’t fool yourself if he wanted a break he wouldn’t audition to play jeff Buckley . Everytime he gets cast in a movie his fans finds a way to hook him up with his female co star. No real director wants this kind of attention for his movie.
really!!

this comment is utter crap ! leonardo de caprio is a very good actor , what you fail to understand he started from very small roles like a soap opera to tv sitcom and gradually worked his way to where he is now . And i am a great fan of De Caprio however he does have his share of DUDS !!.. so why can another actor get the opportunity to perfect their craft…Same goes for Gosling they didn’t became well know from their first , second or third movie .. giving the chance i’m sure Pattinson will be fine..
haters only

correction. no REAL fans wanted to attach his name to any other female lead. only haters did that.
