Even though they may receive their diplomas, the ‘Glee’ creators are going back on their original plans and say they want to keep the main cast members around in season four! Woo hoo!
Earlier this season, sparks flew between leading Glee cast members and the show’s creator, Ryan Murphy, when he claimed he wanted to write them off after they graduated from high school at the end of the season and was not, as previously discussed, creating a spin-off for them. However, now Ryan is singing a different tune.
“We were talking about doing different things and then we decided to work on this season,” Ryan told reporters on set celebrating the show’s 300th musical number Oct. 26.
He added, “I think that just because people graduate, which I thought was very important to the show, that doesn’t mean they’re not on Glee or not a part of the Glee world. We haven’t figured out what that is yet. We’re figuring that out.”
That said, not everyone like Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer are confirmed to stick around for seasons to come…but Ryan made it clear it won’t be because HE gave them the boot.
“A lot of it will depend on the actors and what their dreams are and what they want to do and what they feel that have left in them,” he explained. “We’re obviously a very close group of people. We talk about these things every day.”

Noooooooooooooo! I loved Ryan Murphys original idea of Finn and Rachel going for more in life and getting their dreams fulfilled. I am sick of shows where people don’t get their dreams and have to learn to be happy with what they have blah blah blah. Come on! Dreams do come true in this world and I think it is time for a series to display that fact!

If there is going to be a new show, the cast does have a say in whether or not they want to be in it since it would require an entirely new contract. Whether or not they stay on Glee – well the producers have a say whether or not the cast’s contracts are picked up for the upcoming seasons. They may take the casts feelings into account, but they make the decision. Ryan Murphy is full of BS – he just doesn’t want to look like the bad guy if someone doesn’t come back.

Two words: spin-off series. Rachel, Finn, Kurt and Blaine move to NY to study/work/etc. They’re the best characters and actors, anyway, so they deserve a couple of seasons on their own. Forcing them to stay in a backwater Ohio high school is stupid. My suggestion is go forward with Glee NY, and make the spin-off series more appealing to young adults / adults, less cheesy and more focused on character development. It’s a no-brainer, really.

PS – in any case, I feel like some of the people who have already commented: when Rachel, Kurt, Blaine and Finn disappear from the show, I’m out. Glee is all about these characters. Since they SHOULD graduate, the logical step is creating a well-written spin-off or actually change the Glee storyline and take the main characters to NY for the next seasons.

It’s not such a bad idea to have them graduate and move on…I’m thinking like along the vein of Skins. It works out for them.
