Lauren has taken her first steps and spoken her first words less than a week after a near-death experience with an airplane propeller. We’re so happy to hear this AMAZING news!

Lauren Scruggs, a 23-year-old model whose face and hand were slashed when she walked into the propeller of a two-seater prop plane Dec. 3, — has made remarkable progress in her recovery, her family shared on their blog on Dec. 7.

“This morning, Lauren experienced a victory!” her family wrote. ”Earlier, the physical therapist assisted Lauren in walking for the first time. Once she got halfway there, she said, “30″. Not sure what she meant, Jeff, Cheryl, and Brittany asked her what that means, she replied, “Steps!” What a praise, she was counting every step that she took!”

Lauren is currently recovering in the ICU of Dallas’ Parkland Hospital after propeller amputated her left hand, caused a skull fracture, brain injury and injured left-eye. Her parents wrote that the status of her left eye is still unknown.

“The left eye is still non-responsive, the doctors will continue monitoring it for the next few days,” they said in the post.

This is truly amazing news news considering the severity of her accident! We know Lauren has a long ahead, but we’re confident she’ll have a successful recovery!

We’ve all made dumb mistakes before…
With that said, the fact that she walked into a spinning propeller .. a large diameter, spinning blade that one can see (because of painted ends) and hear.. doesn’t take away from the fact that she was grievous ly injured.
I feel bad for her and the pilot.

The old adage always rings true…
‘Hind sight is 20/20′
