Katy Perry and Russell Brand are ending their marriage.

Russell, 36, has filed for divorce after rumors of intense fighting with Katy, 27, TMZ reports. Court documents say the split is due to “irreconcilable differences.”

The papers Russell filed also mention “community property assets,” which could mean the couple either didn’t have a prenup or it doesn’t cover all of their earnings since they wed.

As we told you first, Russell and Katy’s relationship hasn’t been going well for six months.

“Katy is more confident now and has become even more famous. Russell is not happy with the situation because he is no longer the one in control of the relationship,” our insider said. “Katy used to follow him around like a puppy dog. Russell has a big ego that needs to fed constantly and Katy is just too busy with her own career to cater to him. They never should have gotten married in the first place. It was a whirlwind romance and now they are at completely different places in their lives.”

HollywoodLife.com has reached out to their reps but has yet to hear back.

UPDATE: Russell released a statement about the split, saying, “Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.”
