The funeral for the three sisters killed in a tragic Christmas fire is taking place today, Jan. 5!
Hundreds of mourners gathered at St. Thomas Church in Manhattan to mourn the horrific loss of Madonna Badger’s three young girls — Lilian, Sarah and Grace Badger — who died in a terrible fire on Christmas Day at their mother’s home in Stamford, Conn.
According to the NY Times, family and friends embraced one another with unbearable grief for the loss of the girls. The church was filled to capacity.
The attendees sang three songs to remember the sisters: “Amazing Grace,” “This Little Light of Mine,” and “Over the Rainbow.”
The members of Stamford’s fire rescue time arrived around 9:45 a.m. for the 10:30 a.m. funeral. Madonna and the father of the girls, Matthew Badger, arrived later with other family members.
The girls died along with their grandparents in a devastating fire that engulfed the Badger home on Christmas morning. A family friend, Michael Borcina, had removed embers from a fireplace because the girls were afraid Santa Claus couldn’t come. He placed the embers in a mudroom, which then caused the fatal blaze.
SO sad! Our thoughts go out to the family on this tragic day.

Unbelievable tragedy that will haunt them for the rest of their lives. But what I cant understand is why didnt he pour water on the ashes? To make sure.
Unfortunatly within a month or less they will be sueing each other all three because their grief and guilt will give them enegy to going to court.

My sympathy is with the father. Was the mother setting a good example for her daughters by having her boyfriend “sleepover” when she isn’t even divorced from the father. Great boyfriend by the way. How does a master contractor make this kind of mistake? Why didn’t he hose down the embers? And she still has her boyfriend front and center with her at the funeral? The husband is really a gent and my condolences are to him and his family.

This is so horrific words can not capture what I am feeling for Ms. Badger and also for Michael Borcina who innocently started the fire. She is in terrible pain for her loss and I’m sure he is consumed by guilt. I will keep these two in my prayers.
