‘One Tree Hill’ Through The Years: The Evolution Of Haley

Before watching tonight’s ‘One Tree Hill, browse our gallery of Haley’s nine-year journey, including new quotes from Bethany Joy Galeotti.
Tutor Girl. Baby Mama. Kelly Clarkson. Yes, Haley James Scott has gone by many different names during her nine seasons on One Tree Hill — and I’ve loved every one of them. During a recent visit to the show’s North Carolina set, HollywoodLife.com chatted with Bethany Joy Galeotti about all things Haley, and it got me thinking about just how far she’s come.
“I’m happy with Haley, what she’s been through and where she’s come,” Bethany says of heading into the show’s final season. “What more could [the fans] ask for than to see everybody kind of come back to where they started, back to why everyone fell in love with the show in the first place?”
I couldn’t agree more.
OK, let’s talk about Haley: Do you prefer her as a big-city rocker, or a small-town mom? What do you hope to see from her in this final season, and how would you like her character to finish the series? Drop a comment below with your thoughts on Miz James Scott.

While I like BJG as an actress and believe she’s the strongest actor on the show, I really could not care less for the character of Haley. I feel that even in 9 seasons, there has not been a lot of character development.
I preferred Haley from season 1 when she was the tomboy tutor. I feel like they totally made her character sell out in season 2 as she went from tomboy to preppy. Her attitude, her random friendship with Brooke, and even her clothes/hair were so out of character thst season.
And I have to say that I don’t like the music storyline they created for her later on. I liked her when she was simply tutor girl. It was more realistic and relatable.
I will say that she grew on me last season. (season 8). Maybe because the character’s stories were SIMPLE.

While I too loved the Tomboy dressing tutor girl Haley from S1, the thing is she was 16 years old. No one stays exactly the same as they were at 16 and certainly don’t dress the same. When she married Nathan, she was exposed to newer friends and experiences and took more risks and like every human being, made mistakes. The core of who she is though that never changed.

Haley is and always was my favorite character on OTH and I credit Joy for that. She is the reason I got roped into watching this show in the first place. She has chemistry with every character on the show and she makes a scene come to life. I loved watching her journey from teenage girl to adult woman. I also love her relationship with Nathan, Naley!! The best couple on OTH if not on TV ever. She is the best asset for the show and I really am going to miss her character!!
Thank you for doing the evolution of Haley. Sometimes her character got shafted in regards to story line or screen time, but she is still the heart and soul of OTH!!

It’s been a joy (pun intended) to see Haley’s evolution over the past nine years. To me she’s the heart of the show (along with NH – OTH has gone through so many changes but NH’s love has been the one constant from S1 to S9 along with Nathan & Dan’s dynamic) and has the strongest ties to the other characters.
Haley’s made mistakes, but she learnt from them and at her core she’s a loving and caring wife, mother, friend, and sister. Always there for others even if she’s going through a tough time herself. But hurt the ones she loves and watch out, feisty Haley comes out.
Haley could’ve easily faded into the background, but Joy’s talent didn’t let that happen. Even if Haley had no major storylines, Joy always managed to make her stand out. More often than not she would steal the scene she’s in, even if the focus isn’t on her IMHO.
As much as I love RBR producer Haley and now being a co owner of Karen’s Cafe is perfect, I would still love to also see her go back to teaching in the future. But really all I want in the end is her content in all aspects of her life. She deserves that.
Great article, thanks for sharing.
