Brad pretty much played himself in ‘Moneyball,’ but Melissa definitely deserved her first nomination.
The announcement of the 2012 Oscar nominations brought with it a range of emotions for me. From pleased and delighted to a little bit angry, here’s my reaction to this year’s nominees.
Yay! Melissa McCarthy‘s best supporting actress nomination for Bridesmaids: The Golden Globes snubbed Melissa, but that didn’t keep the Academy from recognizing her brilliant turn as Megan, the hilarious sister-of-the-groom who wasn’t afraid to poop in a sink. Are people still saying that women aren’t funny?
Boo! Brad Pitt nominated for best actor in Moneyball: If by best actor you mean “best actor who looks great in a track suit but is pretty dull otherwise,” then yes.
Yay! 11 nods for Hugo and 10 for The Artist: Both movies make you excited about going to the theater again and remind you what cinema is all about.
Boo! Nothing for Ryan Gosling: Seriously? He played three very different but memorable characters this year — a devastatingly handsome womanizer in Crazy, Stupid, Love, a haunting anti-hero in Drive, and a slick-campaign manager in The Ides Of March. Where is the love, Oscar voters?
Yay! Jessica Chastain earns a best supporting actress nod for The Help: It’s safe to say that this was Jessica’s breakout year. After critical acclaim for her roles in The Debt, The Help, The Tree Of Life and Take Shelter, the Academy was forced to take notice.
Boo! Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 left off the best picture list: If that movie about the hobbits and a ring can win best picture, what’s wrong with wizards and horcruxes?
What did you think of the nominees, HollywoodLifers?

I totally disagree with you regarding Brad Pitt. The scene where his character Billy has his first meeting to solicit more money from (I guess, the owner), that scene alone, was worth the Oscar nod. Brad’s ability to convey restrained anger was excellent. If you’ve ever been in that situation when you are beyond angry but are forced to show restraint because showing your anger would result in an even worst outcome than what you started with; if you’ve ever been there, then you’d know what it looks like and you’d know that it looks like Brad. You said Brad played himself yet you accepted Melissa McCarthy’s performance. I’ll be darn if she didn’t play herself! It seems maybe you have a personal dislike for Brad Pitt which has absolutely nothing to do with his talent. Fortunately, the Academy judges only talent and not people.

well , everybody has a right to voice their opinion when it comes to movies . I saw moneyball , did not fall asleep , i was very much into the “story” and i’m not that much into sport movies and i’m not a guy ..LOL! . funny thing is i loved the blind side ,was extremely happy when Sandra Bullocks won , and i am a Brad Pitt fan for a long time now . He has made a lot of entertaining movies , he worked with Robert Redford in “a river runs through it” i really enjoyed Benjamin Button and Malick”s Tree of Life .. i know a lot of people didn’t get it but it’s ok ! I can list a lot more but it doesn’t matter. that french actor dujardin might win but then again who knows !!Once again the academy doesn’t nominate films from their box office take but from the actual performance of the actors involved , so even though HP7 made a crapload of money it is not academy worthy , but it did get nominated for special effects and something else !!Bridesmaids was ok to me had some funny moments the best thing in the whole thing was Melissa McCarthy she may not win but she was recognize for her talent. Also LOTR Return of the King can not be compared to HP I love the whole Potter series own them all but you can’t compare the words of JRR Tolkien with Rowlings , ROTK was epic and it deserved his win. And for Gosling, i like him but like many deserving actors perhaps he didn’t impress the academy also he always look like himself in most movies not that there is anything wrong with that i’m sure he will get another chance he his still young . Anyway as a moviegoer. i love movies i even suffer thru some bad ones but overall it was an ok year for quality films …. oh well may the best movie win, the academy tend to surprise people with their choice so we will have to wait and see !!!!
GAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What were you expecting from someone playing Biilly Beane Denise? The job is called “acting” and Brad was 180% BILLY BEANE in “Moneyball” … despite being actually BRAD PITT in real life.

Every guy I know who’s seen Moneyball liked it. Every girl I know who’s seen Moneyball fell asleep during it. As for Ryan Gosling, I would call him “generic,” not “memorable.” There are 5,000 guys like him waiting tables in L.A. right now.

Denise – you have a right to your own opinions and if you think along with a lot of other folks that Brad Pitt SUCKED in moneyball – that’s your right (smile)….

Denise, you’re smoking crack if you think Brad Pitt sucked in Moneyball. Just because someone isn’t running around naked holding sparklers doesn’t make their performance “dull.” Grow up.
