‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Recap: What The Heck Happened To This Show?

Were the writers tired of coming up with new dialogue and scenes, so they just stole from earlier seasons?

The latest episode of Grey’s Anatomy starts with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) wondering what if things had been different. What if she had a mother who was alive and a father who cared? Conveniently, she fell asleep and dreamed of this alternate reality, where everything had changed– and yet, ultimately was still the same. But while I appreciated the idea that these characters were always set for a certain path no matter what — the execution was incredibly sloppy.

First of all — most of the scenes at the end were straight up cribbed from seasons past. Meredith and Cristina (Sandra Oh) in the bar bonding over tequila shots and their mutual disdain of sharing their feelings? Seen it. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) speechifying in an elevator? Seen it. Alex (Justin Chambers) being a general a**hole? Seen it. Mark (Eric Dane) walking out of Addison’s (Kate Walsh) bathroom to Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) utter shock? Seen it. And of course, the denouement of Derek and Meredith’s “I’m just a girl/guy in a bar” discussion? Definitely seen it.

I did absolutely love the dynamic between Dr. Webber (James Pickens Jr.) and Dr. Ellis Grey (Kate Burton), but it was the one bright spot in a very weird hour.

What did you think of Grey’s, HollywoodLifers?

Noticed that everyone thought this latest episode was fine. I don’t agree. I hated it. A dream sequence should not take up the whole of one show. This was not a bit like the Greys we all have come to love.
Previosly the dead Danny storyline spoilt the series but redeemed itself by explaining that it was a manifestation of Issie’s brain tumour which accounted for it.
Don’t feel this recent episode left us with any feeling of “What happens next” which surely is the key to keep people watching.

Did your Tivo cut off the ending or something? Meredith ends the episode by saying things are just meant to be. Meaning, no matter how you may think you create your own destiny (as what Miranda said) and despite an alternate set of realities which alters circumstances, destiny itself ultimately prevails. I’m not sure I buy that premise, but it was interesting to ponder non-the-less.

This was a great episode. I loved that they brought Addison back. I was hoping to see George and Izzy since they mentioned them in the episode. Good stuff all around and I’m tough to entertain.

I think Grey’s does these cool episodes to make it different. We were all excited about this and it delivered. Your review is a tad too critical but that’s your job. I thought bringing up lines from previous seasons was interesting, a callback of sorts.

Grey’s is still great. Opinions differ but whatever, I liked the episode. It wasn’t the BEST episode, but it was definitely interesting.
