Hugh Laurie will hanging up his stethoscope — and whatever other fancy tools doctors use — for the last time this May.
Get your fill of misdiagnoses while you can, House fans! The bosses of the hit (and sometimes miss) FOX series have announced that its current eighth season will also be its last. Star Hugh Laurie, creator David Shore and executive producer Katie Jacobs released a joint statement, in which they thanked fans for their loyalty and explained the reasoning behind their decision. They agree Dr. House should “disappear before the music stops, while there is still some promise and mystique in the air.”
In a nutshell, they’re saying they want to end the show while it’s still on top — or at the very least, before it becomes completely terrible.
(Check out the full statement over at our sister site TVLine.)
Are you sad that House is ending, or do you agree it’s time for the good doctor to retire? And which former cast members would you love to see return to the show one last time? See you in the comments section!

House was amazing, and I wish it would never end, but you can’t always get what you want :)

The BEST show on TV to end??!!
PLEASE you cannot do this.
OK so everybody lies. You are just lying and House is NOT ending. Just testing fans loyalty right?
Bought all the DVD’s available and have watched each show several times. Millions have done the same.
It would be such a crime to end House.

We used to love House, but not so much lately. Just tooo weird. Love HL though, and wish him the very best, along with the other cast members.

I’ll miss the show but I’m glad that Hugh can finally go home to his family. I’ve noticied how tired he looks as of Season 7. He’s a pro so he’s carried on with show but it’s time to let him go, so he can drop the the “American” accent, and be who he is: a multi-talented, complex man. I’m glad he can escape the dark, damaged role and move on to his music, writing the next volume of the Gunseller?, anything else he wants to do. He’s earned it.

I will definitely miss it, it’s my favourite TV show of all time. I’d love to see 13, Cuddy and Cameron one more time before it’s over.

I will miss it, and Hugh Laurie, terribly. Even at it’s lowest points, House has always been the best written show on television. Hope this is not the last we see of Hugh Laurie over here! I will very much miss seeing him every week. The last eight years of being treated to his incredible talent on a regular basis will be hard to live without. We’ve been so spoiled! Do we really have to give him back to England now? Thank you to Mr. Laurie, the writers, producers, cast and crew, for sharing this phenomenal show with all of us.

I understand why it is time to end the show but I will miss seeing Hugh Laurie. I read another article that indicated that he is retiring from TV — which, if true, will be our loss.

What more rediculous that SEVERAL CIS type shows with the usual dead body and who done it plot? I think it is the best mix of good writing and acting, funny and dramatic that we will get.
