This mother of 5 gave birth to her daughter two weeks early so her dying husband could meet the newest addition, Savannah, before he died.
Diane Augler, 31, learned her husband, Mark Augler, 52, was losing his battle with his fatal lung disease just a few days shy of her due date, according to The Daily Mail. ”I want to see her,” Mark requested, talking about his then unborn baby, Savannah. The doctors suggested they induce labor two weeks early, and Diane immediately agreed. Savannah was born just two days later on Jan. 18. The father spent some time with Savannah: “He held her for 45 minutes,” says Diane. “Him and I just cried that whole time.”
The next day Mark slipped into a coma. On Jan. 23, he died in his hospital bed. His wife and children were at his side, and his newborn daughter was in his arms.
Diane placed baby Savannah in his arms during those final minutes: “His heart rate started to drop, and his breathing started to drop, so I put her in his arms and held his hand until he died.”
Diane says Mark was a great father. “He would talk to my stomach when I was pregnant,” she says. “He was so excited for her. He would have been a wonderful daddy to Savannah.”

I was moved by this story, especially since a family member was recently diagnosed with the same disease, colorectal cancer. I really just wanted to ask Diane more about the effects of her husband’s treatment. What chemo drug caused the pulmonary fibrosis? Sorry for her and her children’s loss.
