Reed Grimm was taken by surprise when producers told him 30 minutes before his solo he couldn’t sing a cappella — and for a second, we didn’t think he was going to make it!
Reed Grimm is quite the character. The 26-year-old personable singer seems almost overeager and enthusiastic at first, but then you quickly realize he has the talent to back up his quirkiness.
On solo day during Hollywood week on American Idol Feb. 15, Reed was planning to sing a capella, but was thwarted by the producers less than an hour before his performance. He had to sing with the band. Not surprisingly, this threw poor Reed for a loop and he struggled to maintain his composure during rehearsal.
In fact, he was so freaked out, he had to leave his practice and go upstairs to his room and call his mom. At this point, we were pretty sure he was down for the count. However, he came on stage with new vigour and said he was going to play the drums while singing — and he knocked it out of the park!
