Canaan Smith (born Canaan Lee Smith on August 24, 1982 in Williamsburg, Virginia) is an American country music singer-songwriter. He grew up singing everything he heard, from alternative rock like Rage Against The Machine to country like George Strait. During his college years, Canaan relocated to Nashville to begin his career as a singer, playing in the local bars and clubs. He also worked as a songwriter, co-writing the hit “Runaway” for the country band Love and Theft. The song made it to the No. 10 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs in 2009. Canaan’s debut single, “We Got Us,” was released in January 2012 after being made available on iTunes in 2011. It debuted at the No. 53 on the country music charts and the music video, directed by Brian Lazarro, was broadcast on GAC. It made it to the GAC Top 20 Ballot. He was also featured in Country Weekly magazine as a “One To Watch in 2012.” Canaan continued to work on his debut album, releasing “Love You Like That” in 2014. He released a self-titled EP in 2015, before dropping his first full-length studio album, Bronco, in June 2015. In September 2015, Canaan announced his first headlining concert tour with Russell Dickerson.

He appeared on The Amazing Race with his then-girlfriend, Mika Combs, in 2009. While that relationship wouldn’t last, Canaan would eventually become engaged to Christy Hardesty. They would marry in 2014. He attended Belmont University with America’s Got Talent contestant, Julienne Irwin.
