Doris Lessing

Doris Lessing (born Doris May Lessing in Kermanshah, Iran on Oct. 22, 1919) was a British novelist, poet, and playwright. She died peacefully in her home in London on Nov. 17.

Best Known For:
Doris Lessing is best known for winning the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2007 and wrote important modern classics like The Golden Notebook and Memoirs of a Survivor. Doris became the oldest winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature when she won it at the age of 88 in 2007. It was an award that summed up her long, decorated career, which was highlighted by important works like The Golden Notebook.

Personal Life:
Doris Lessing is survived by her daughter Jean and her granddaughters Anna and Susannah. She was married to Frank Wisdom in 1937, and they divorced. She then married Gottfried Lessing, and they divorced in 1949. She never married again.
