Bio:
Rick Perry (born James Richard Perry on March 4, 1950 in Paint Creek, Texas) is an American politician. Rick is a fifth-generation Texan, and his family dates back to the Thirteen colonies. Rick’s interests in politics started when he was 11, when his father took him to the funeral of U.S. Representative Sam Rayburn. He attended Paint Creek High School and enrolled in Texas A&M University. He graduated in 1972. While in school, Rick was a part of the Corp of Cadets and after graduating, he was commissioned as an officer in the US Air Force. He left the military with the rank of Captain in 1977. He began his political career in 1984, when he was elected to the Texas House of Representatives. He served as Agriculture Commissioner in 1990 until 1998. He was elected to Texas’s Lieutenant governor in 1999. Rick was appointed Governor following George W. Bush’s resignation in 2000. He was re-elected to the position in 2002, 2006 and 2010. Rick famously ran in the 2012 Presidential Election. After a mistake-prone campaign, he came in fifth place in the Iowa caucuses, before announcing that he would drop out of the race. In June 2015, Rick announced that he would once again seek the Presidency of the United States in 2016.

Personal Life:
Rick married his childhood sweetheart, Anita Thigpen, in 1982. They have two children together, son Griffin and Sydney. Rick has appeared in a handful of films, including Man of the House and Deep In The Heart. He is a member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and was named the American Cowboy Culture association’s “Top Cowboy of Texas” in 2001.
